Adora X Rosamond

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

Calling on the experts:
I started with a cutting of Isabelle (thanks Padre!) and now have about 20 cuttings of various brugs rooting/rooted and waiting for warm weather.
Then I realized that the cold weather need not slow down my quest for brugs, because there are seeds on eBay! I have 2 different packs of seeds - Adora X Rosamond and Eventide X Butterfly.
Advice? Predictions? I am one of those people that finds it so hard to wait! Any info or guesses on what they would look like? Smell like? Size?
I mean, I'm gonna plant them anyway but I'm too new to brugs to have any expectations from these seeds. Can someone please help me ? !

Thanks, Eileen

Hi Eileen. I plead guilty to my share in the creation of another addict :-) How wonderful to hear of your growing enthusiasm. My own experience says, 'Don't attach to outcomes.' Greet each new bloom with the same enthusiasm as though it was your first. I have done a search (use 'search' option) on many of the various varieties that I have and gathered pictures for my files from other sites (BGI)along with comments about unique problems experienced by other brugnuts. This is a learning expercise and keeps me out of mischief (for a while). Have fun. This ain't a practice run, its for real :-)

Eileen,
..... The only certainty of your seedlings from either cross is the uncertainty of what you will get....
............ It's a toss up and we all hope for that One Special color or shape that will "Rock Our World"
;~P
Best of Luck To You,
Shirley

Hi Eileen, I too love to grow from seed. So far all my seedlings have come out white, but I am not giving up. I bought some of Calla's seeds off ebay and am looking forward to planting them right after Christmas. I agree with everyone else. You just keep hoping to get one special one out of all your seedlings .

Hmmm, I'm not trying for the Holy Grail of Brugs or anything. I started off by buying seeds that had good looking parents that were fragrant. Then, as I read through some of posts (old and current) I began to realize that I wouldn't necessarily get something that looks like one or the other. From what I read, it seems like you could cross two colors and end up with white(?). Also, I read some posts about Maya seedlings lacking chlorophyll. So it finally dawned on me that I don't have the slightest clue as to what will happen next. I just thought that maybe someone here had tried these crosses already and had found out what the end result will be.
But it's OK if the answer is, "no one knows", because I'll eventually find out!

I'm guessing here but you might come out with some pretty pinks. Butterfly color seems to come through on a lot of crosses. I have a Rosamond X Butterfly seedling that came out a pretty dark pink this summer, but am not familiar with Adora or Eventide and what their backgrounds are. One thing is for sure, you should get something pretty and whites can be very pretty too.

Oh yes, I like all the colors. My favorite ones are large with those long tendrils. Plus, I really enjoy flowers that are fragrant. Is fragrance something that is hit-or-miss with brug crosses?

I saw these seeds and was really interested in the Eventide X Butterfly ones. Eventide is a beauty!

I guess I better go see if I can find a picture of it. I know I've seen it before, but my memory is about - that long.

Here is Adora X Rosamond, 3 months after the seeds sprouted:

Eventide X Butterfly (only 2 lived, one is growing super slow, this is the other one)

Of course I picked the most robust of each type to show. I have 6 AdoraX's, 5 look alike and the 6th one has different shaped leaves than the others. I can't believe how much space these guys take up - the leaves are huge!
Here's one with smoother leaves:

Your seedlings are looking good. Hope they give you colored blooms and that you will post pictures no matter how they come out.

Thank You, I can't wait for blooms (but I guess I'll have to, right?). I don't care if they are white or colored but I hope they smell good. I repotted the "babies" today and they were a solid ball of roots in the 4" pots. They went straight to 3 gallon pots because that's all I had. I've totally enjoyed raising these guys from seeds, watching them grow and change. Do you think there's any chance they could bloom this summer or fall?

Eileen they look great. I never have any luck with them blooming the first year but lots of people have, if you want to feed them like crazy.

Orange Park, FL(Zone 8b)

They look good & I agree..
I have such joy watching all the many changes that occur. How some do look alike and others, not at all.
They may bloom this year, I grew some out that bloomed the first year:)
