Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

That date was kind of hard to type in. It means another year is almost over. I can remember when people were saying the world wouldn't be here in 2000 because we would have killed each other & probably all life on the planet in a nuclear explosion or some such thing. Well, we have made it there and past.

The cake for Powell Gardens is out of the oven. Sure smells good. I have missed the past 2 weeks so it will be nice to go again. I'm not sure what next year holds in store for doctor appointments. The doctor that Jack sees for his liver is only in clinic on Mondays to it depends a lot on how often he has to see him. I know of at least 1 and maybe 2 appointments in the mid-spring. I seem to have little if any control over what I do when. Sort of like a puppet on a string.

No more deer yesterday or last night and the seasons are over for the year. We did get a doe Friday night while I was at work and that is now all worked up and in the freezer. I think we got something like 8 total. Not sure tho. Nearly all are given away to others who need the meat. I wish the state would do a doe only year or 2 to cut down on the population of the deer in the state. Or make an open season year around for awhile. Most of the hunters in our area who bring us deer are looking for antlers and will only go out to shoot bucks. The Conservation Dept. had a doe only shoot in Knob Noster State Park a week or so ago. The park was closed to the public and about 75 hunters were selected in a drawing to go in and shoot does. There are so many deer up there that they are dying of starvation. I have a feeling there will be some illegal hunting done by farmers just to cut down on the does population. I've been hearing remarks lately in that direction. But right now the does are real skittish and harder to find than the bucks. Later in the season they will be more out and about. There are also hungry people out there in this area who will do about anything to put food on the table. Unemployement is high here in the Sedalia area.

Marie rat seems to be doing quite will by herself. She seems to have come out of her shell so to speak and is more friendly and wants to be handled and petted more than usual. I really didn't want to get another one just to keep her company. When she is gone I will be thru with rats. I got these for Shad and his mother refused to have them in her house so they had to stay here. Of course I am very attached to them too. We had rats for the older children and loved them dearly too. They are such affectionate & intellegent creatures if properly socialized as babies.

I need to go and get started on the day. GOD bless and keep each of you.
