Can't believe after having this plant for over 10 yrs the thing finally decided to bloom. I've always asked around at the botanical gardens to see if anyone had advise on what to do for it, and basically figured it just wasn't warm enough in NJ. Really haven't done anything differnt with it-Keep it outside in summer and move to sunny window in winter and occasionally give it some fertilizer. Happened to walk by yesterday and it had a big bloom on it-I never even noticed the bud so it is a nice Christmas surprise!!
bird of paridise BLOOMING
Congratulations! Maybe there is hope that I could get one to bloom here in Missouri...I love the tropical look they impart to a garden.
10 years!! It's a long-awaited flower...:) Congratulations!!
Hooray! Keep it rootbound and do not give it too much water. The only thing they give you for too much love is leaves. With any luck you will soon have several blooms.
How exciting...I only have 8 years left to wait...LOL
kat: Where's the pic? Would love to see it!
