Old-Fashioned Stack Cake

OLD~FASHIONED STACK CAKE

This is a traditional southern desert served at family and community gatherings and holidays.

Cream:
3/4 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
Add and mix well:
2 eggs
1 cup molasses
Mix together:
1/4 tsp soda to 1/2 cup buttermilk
Mix together:
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp cloves
3/4 tsp allspice
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking powder
3 cups flour
Combine buttermilk mixture with creamed mixture alternately with dry ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees in greased and floured pans or skillet using only 1/2 inch thick layer of batter at a time. Stack baked layers with apple filling.


Apple Filling
Cook together until tender:
3 cups chopped apples
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp cloves
3/4 cup sugar.
