thank-you i spent all after noon dragging in about 15 bouganvillas and one 4 year old mandevilla and several unknown angel trumpets , that my mother gave me today!!

Lucky girl. I love bougies, but our growing season isn't long enough for them. A couple of my Mandy's are doing okay. How do you hold them over? Do you let them grow, cut them back, let them go dormant?????

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

my mother is the one who usually does the Bougies she lets them grow but cuts them back at first, she cut these back before i brought them home. she said to fertilize them and keep wtered and they will grow and bloom in my GH i look forward as long as they don't stick me LOL!! and the mandy she cut it back but didn't want to she usually just lets it grow all winter in her porta Gh ( plastic around her deck) but since she is moving she gave them to me to baby sit it was too big for me to put in my gh so we cut it back, i thought i might try to root some of the excess we cut off.

I have better luck rooting them than I do holding them over. Rooting in a jar of perlite works well for me. I wonder if that is what I should be doing to hold them over....just take new cuttings...LOL!

Amanda you made out like a bandit. I know you can't wait for spring.

I am so appreciative also everyone has been so generous and i too will be just that generous when i can cut these babies back next winter I have two unknown brugs in 5 gallon pots that my mother gave me that i am looking forward to seeing bloom in my Gh this winter I just like seeing things grow my brother is the same way he can stick a dead stick in dirt and it will grow he is good at germinating seeds and getting cuttings to take off. I never knew i had this gift also till last year. When i realized we were going to stay in this one spot i started planting and i really enjoyed it
