Brazilian Plume, Flamingo Flower, Jacobinia, Pine-Bur Begonia (Justicia carnea)
That flower is absolutly georgeous!! I cant even spell right its so purty.
It is indeed a lovely plant. Are the blooms suitable to use as cut flowers? That would be an added bonus!
I love mine. I also had the one with the purple undersides of the leaves, I believe it was called Radiant, but I didn't care for it. It just didn't get as full looking. This year I grew this one. I also have a red one that I'm holding over in the basement. It didn't bloom for me this summer. I need to do some reading to see what I did wrong with it.
That's a nice one, Shirley, and I bet the red is pretty too. These two plants got very leggy and only filled out after I cut them way back. They only seem to bloom after the weather warms up considerably.
I finally let my mother plant go this year. She was just too root bound, but I have a half dozen babies rooted and waiting to be potted. The yellow one is much prettier than the picture and very showy from a distance. It, however, doesn't root easily at all.
Im going to have to keep a really close eye out for this one this year. I dont ever remember seeing it at all but that could just be because I was looking for something else or thoughtI would kill it or they wanted way way too much money. I try not to drool too much over things I know I just cant have but enjoy looking at them. Sometimes that makes it more special. Kinda like when I got my first brugs. Happy dances around here can happen at any time over just about anything from a much dreamed over plant to the sun shinning warm after a long winter or even a love note left by a sleeping DH when I get home from work at midnight
Dravencat,
Logee's has my Justicia and other ones for $6. Here's the link: http://www.logees.com/store/ Otherwise, remind me in the spring that you would like a cutting of mine, and I'll try to root some for you, and we can trade for Brug cuttings that I don't have. I'm looking for Rosamund, Snowbank, and/or Peaches and Cream.
I have several of the pink that has the more rounded bloom like the one to the left in the photo. What cultivar is the taller one with the more elongated blooms? Or is this the same type, just a larger plant?
htop,
They are the same type of Justicia. I had just pruned them both back, and one grew back at a faster rate for some reason, but they are both the same size now.
