Ti plant, Hawaiian Ti, Good Luck Plant (Cordyline fruticosa)
Dimmer, you might be giving your plant too much water. Try watering it less and see how it does. I water mine only when the soil is dry.
I have had a Ti plant like the one shown here since November 1975. I raised it from a piece of wood about three inches long that I bought at a grocery store in the Dallas, Texas area. I have kept it in the house in the winter and moved it to the patio in the summer. When in the house, I water it once a week with Miraclo Gro per the directions. It is multiple trunked and is about 6 feet tall. I have re-potted it twice and moved homesteads many times in the last almost 30 years. From time to time, some leaves have turned yellow and when investigating the underneath of the leaves, I have found microscopic red dots covering the underside of the leaf. I wash the leaves with water and a wet paper towel, and the plant continues to put on new growth.
C. fruticosa is a lovely, very tropical plant with red, yellow or variegated leaves with many named forms. The plant in my image is an offshoot of one I have had for several years growing outdoors in my frostfree San Diego garden. I keep it in a pot off the ground to foil the snails, etc. That is one of the disadvantages of a very mild climate: bad, hungry insects the year around. WalterT.
Those red dots may be spider mites.
how would you transplant this tree without putting it into shock i have one that is 50 years old and now it the biggest pot i can buy
I have a plant just like this one. I've had it for 17 years. I've replanted several times and it's done really well. This year right before Thanksgiving my plant put out flowers. It's never done this before and I was wondering if anybody else has ever had one to bloom.
