I was given a small room to use as a workroom for my seedlings and cuttings. I made an 8' double light rack for the cuttings on top of the table and a similar set of lights under the table for a total of 16 4' bulbs. Against the far wall are the two 4' three level seed germinating racks. The unit on the left has light bulb bottom heat available for the top shelf.
Workroom finished
Looking the other direction shows the desk and shelves with bug juice sprays :-) bags, boxes, seeds files and buckets of vermiculite, potting soil, perlite, sand and top soil. I covered the floor with a dropcloth since I wanted to protect the carpet that was a permanent fixture. The room opens east and gets only a few hours of direct sun each morning. Good hide-away - but they always track me down :-(
They must really like you there Padre. I have been here for over 25 years and no one has given me a GH or a seedling room yet! Looks great! I need one!
Kell, you must first become a Nun and ask Mother Superior to give you one of the empty rooms in the convent :-)
Kell?........... A NUN? Heaven help us!
Only kidding, you need a seedling room.
What a nice setup Padre, do you have almost every named brug now? I am curious, what names on each one, too small to read? PLMK for spring, which ones you don't have.

Gosh Padre, I also would love to have a place like yours for hiding away and growing my plants. Looks really great and the plants are doing very well in there.
You have a lovely room, Padre. Are you employing any helpers? ; )
Wow Padre, that looks great!
There's only one problem with the whole thing. I can't read the tags. Next time write bigger, I'm so curious. LOL
Gosh Pardre, you have done such a good job. Now what in the world are you going to do with all those plants, lol? I filled up a couple of shelves because I hate to thrown any thing away. I plan to barter some of mine to the nursery for other plants come spring. Do I need lights over mine like you have? And are the grow lights any better than just florescents? George
Looks like a wonderful setup Padre. Hope they all make it for you.
Sure wish I had something like that for my cuttings and to start seeds. It looks just great.
Padra that looks great.....my goodness you have a bunch of cuttings. I'll bet the grounds will be covered with Brugs come spring and just think of all the beautiful flowers everyone will get to enjoy.
On your light table do you have gro-lights or are they just regular fluorescent bulbs. I was going to do something simular but didn't know if I had to use gro-lights.......
Dee
Padre ,that is WAY too organized, you need me to come over and mess things up for you....LOL
It looks great!
What a wonderful job you did with that room and your plants look great.
You will surely be busy this winter with all those cuttings and seedlings.
Thanks for all the positive comments. I have a number of 'daylight' or 'full spectrum' bulbs and some just plain flourescent. I haven't tried to see if I can identify any significant difference between the effects of the various types. We use some of the 'full spectrum' lamps in the infirmary wing of the building and I have used a number of them but the rest of the building has just ordinary lamps and I round out the count with them. I just got one of those water wands that attach to the aerator of the sink faucet and it is a great help in the watering of the plants.
I understood that if you use one white flourescent light (kind of a bluish spectrum) and one of the yellowish ones in each fixture, that you will have the same effect as buying a grow-light. Can anyone confirm that?
Yes, I have been using one 'warm' and one 'cool' bulb for years now when I bring my plants in for the winter. They thrive under them, so does the pocketbook since the set-up is cheaper than the so called 'grow' lights.
Nice stetup, Padre. You will enjoy hiding from everyone there. When the plants get big enough, then they won't be able to find you. :>)
Healthy looking set up there! What in the world do you do with all those brugs???
sarv48, I plant a lot of them on the grounds here at the Infirmary as well on the campus of the university next door. The remainder I send to loving homes here in the Bronx and surrounding areas.
I'm coming over with CC,we gotta mess that place up,WAY to organized!
I use 50/50 regular and Aquarium bulbs.
Looks great Parde, does not seem long ago,you were getting your first one.
Pretty easy plant to propagate EH?
Root.;0)
Great looking setup, Padre. Hope all of them do real well for you.
Padre, it looks great. Inspires me to try & get organized!
Padre, great looking setup. What are you going to do when they reach the lights, which should be soon. The leaves burn very easily. Maybe it will be spring there soon!!!Donna
Donna, If I need to I can raise the light support structure. But before that I'll probably move them out to the greenhouse where they will have more room. There are just a few that tall, long cuttings I took from my Isabella, which I intend to move soon. I have a bucket, not seen in the photo, which has four 30" rooted stalks. These will go out also. I'm trying many different suggested ways of doing things so I can broaden my base of experience, even if I eventually wind up adding some of them to the compost pile. The price of learning is occasional failure.
Padre, its a great looking setup. The cuttings like it! I would dissappear under the table if I hear someone coming looking for me LOL!
ROTFLOL What an image, Monika. Of course the seed flats will be there in early spring so there will be no room for either of us :-)
They are more expensive, but I buy bulbs at the aquarium store, and get a combination of the 10,000 K bulb and I believe the other is called super actinic, the 2 bulbs in one fixture are supposed to be good for growing, they are used for simulating sun for coral reefs.
I am a retired Master General Electrician and the Maryland Tobacco Growers Association recommends one Cool White and one Daylight in each 8', 2- tube fixture. It's supposed to be the closest to the outside light without spending too much money to try to duplicate.

This is a picture with my lights up (3- #296 fixtures with 1- Cool White and i- Daylight each)for demo but they actually go about ½" above the trays. Worked great. Had a 90-95% germination last year.
