This was my first year with burgs and Dr. Suess finally bloomed late. Now I have taken cuttings from him and my other two, S. white and Isabella, and also have some that Vi sent to me. With the help from ya'll, I'm trying several ways for starting them. Planted in soil, in water, laying some long ways in soil and the ones with leaves are from seed. If these make it, I will have a great new garden come spring. And I will be able to barter with my local nursery for pine needles and other plants. Just hope I don't screw up the ones in water that have roots already when I have to move them to soil. I will learn!!!
Learning to multiply
Looks like you are off to a great start George! Im hoping for the best for you.
Best of luck with your new babies!
They look happy and the cuttings in the water on the top shelf with the white nubbies look ready for dirt. Oh spring ..... I can almost feel it.
Gosh, your cuttings and seedlings are looking great. I agree with Kell, you can plant those in water. Winter isn't even here yet and we all all ready for spring I think, Kell. LOL!! Way to go George. Looking good!!
What'a ya mean winters not here yet????LOL
Well, in my book it is here, but the calendar says it isn't. LOL!! How much snow do you have to deal with now Karyn? We are getting light flurries now, but nothing much to worry about.
Gee, ya'll are talking about snow and I just put out grass seed today. And now I have a nice cold rain coming down, just perfect. Hope you northern guys don't get to much snow, you have been pounded with it enough. George
Winter???
Is that the same deceitful calendar that tells us that Spring begins on March 21?
I think it is one and the same Sandra. However, our chances for spring being timely are better than winter making a timely entrance. I've had the shivers for two months already.
We can gloat, George, we don`t have those kind of winters, thank goodness. Your plants look great.
George, I'm sooooo proud of you!
George - Something facinating about brugs - the excitement of the first few cuttings, lying down on the ground at night to take pictures of the first bloom... :) Definitely a siren call.
And what's so special, they are so easy to share and propagate cuttings. I'm at the end of my first year - three of mine bloomed - and I am enjoying your anticipation, feeling that same with my own... I probably have a couple dozen cuttings I am nurturing with anticipation ... :-)
And to think I went 37 years without even knowing they existed... I think as a special gift, I am going to take my best cutting home to my mother for Christmas - methinks there aren't many brugs in New Mexico!
Spring - let it come!!
George, your setup looks very good and they look healthy. We are hoping for an early spring. Doesn't look like spring outside here tho, about 7 or so inches of snow covering everything. Donna
Thanks all for responses. Busybee, right about winters, but you are even better off that most. Thanks Vi. sbarr, you're right about that first bloom. These are new to me too. Where have they been all our lives? Since it so easy to grow them, I hope, lol.
You are off to a great start now, George. You will be showing us some beautiful flowers this spring. As for the cold, it is cold here this morning even with the sun shining. I am sure glad it warms up fast. I have a few things blooming in the hot house but not very much outside right now.
