Flowering Maple, Parlour Maple, Indian Mallow 'Ruffles'
Very pretty combination, Clare. Those flowering maples are lovely flowers. I never paid much attention before when someone posted a "flowering maple" because we have all kinds of maple trees around here! But then when I finally did see one I thought, wow! That's nothing like I've seen before! Wonder why it's called a maple! Thanks for the picture.
Hi Roshana! Thanks for your post and for the compliment! I'm not sure why they call Abutilon Flowering Maple, but maybe it's because the leaves are similar?
Yes, very pretty, Clare. My first thought was I LIKE this maple. Then I read the zone - won't work for me in 4b! Those leaves sure don't look like a maple.
Kooger,
You're right that these leaves don't look like a maple, but I have another Abutilon which has leaves which look much more like maple leaves. You can probably grow this one indoors if you gave it some light. I have mine outside hanging from the patio which gets mostly shade, and it seems to do fine. This isn't a great picture, but it's another Abutilon:
By the way, I got the first one from Logee's. They carry several different varieties. http://www.logees.com/store/
Here's another one:
those flowers look like they could be Japanese paper lanterns! beautiful colors!
Thanks for the link to logee's. I try to tell people where I got my plants, not as an add, but to show the varied great plants that can be gotten thru these sources. I have found them to be wonderful places to get the knowledge to acquire the right plants for my needs.
