Elephant ear stealing animal?

Fulton, MS(Zone 7a)

What kind of animal takes a huge elephant ear bulb out of pot and takes it up a tree? Had a dead tree to fall yesterday and i was cleaning up picked up a piece and thought I saw a big bulb, dug around and it was one of my bulbs! Checked pots and sure enough one was turned over and no bulb. And this is one of the huge bulbs to. It was high up in tree too. Any thoughts?

My bet would be a squirrel. I have 2 large pots in the shade by a park bench which I plant with panseys in the fall. In the spring, I pull them out, loosen the soil and plant impatiens. Planted the impatiens one day..the next day they had been dug up and on the top of the soil were shelled hickory nuts! I can't think of any other 'tree climber' who would swipe your bulb.

LOL at myself! Caught the thief at it again! A ground hog.
I thought it had took it up the tree while it was still standing-looks like it dragged it up there after it had fallen. Moved all them up closer to the house. Maybe that will scare him or her off.

Did you know that elephant ear is really taro? Eaten by people in South America and also Africa I think.
