Crape Jasmine, Crepe Jasmine 'Flore Pleno' (Tabernaemontana divaricata)
I'm trying to identify a shrub I have in my yard. It looks like the photo. Are your flowers about three fourths inch wide?
Terry
Thanks, Clare
I'll work on that.
Terry
Terry, I was thinking that you could also have Jasminum sambac. J. sambac "Grand Duke" has flowers about that size. J. sambac 'Maid of Orleans' has flowers which are a little smaller.
No!Clare
I just bought two Grand Duke last weekend
The Grand Duke is much smaller than this
Maybe 1/4 or even smaller
Taichitw, I think you misunderstood my post. I was just trying to help Terry figure out what she had, and she asked me if my flowers were "three fourths inch wide," which is about the size of my Grand Duke flowers. My J. sambac 'Maid of Orleans' has flowers that are about 1/2 inch wide. My Tabernaemontana blooms are around two inches wide. Grand Duke generally has very large bloom heads, about an inch wide. Yours may have been mislabeled if your blooms are only a 1/4 inch wide: Here are some links which describe the size of the bloomheads of GD: http://almostedenplants.com/mall/Granddukejasmine.asp and http://toptropicals.com/html/toptropicals/articles/shrubs/jasminum_sambac.htm and http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55233/ and http://www.kartuz.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=KG&Product_Code=51870&Category_Code=4JAS and http://www.logees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=R1389-2 These links all describe the blooms as an inch to an inch and a half. Now, Jasminum sambac 'Maid of Orleans' is much smaller so perhaps that is what you have.
