Another must-have

Now that my remote thermometer tells me the temp in the greenhouse, I've been running out there at night to turn the heater on, and trying to remember to turn is off before I go to work in the morning.

Look at this!! You plug it into the outlet, plug the heater into the remote device and can turn the heater on and off from inside the house. Only $7, range is 50-100 feet, works great for me. I hung the "clicker" on the wall beside the thermometer. Gotta love it.

Love all these gadgets. They sure can make life easier, can't they?

That is pretty neat. I will have to look for one.

Where did you find it Linda?

This is even better, plug it in, plug your elec heater into it and set the thermostat. Can be set as low as 40 degrees.

Another thing that works great and is foolproof providing there isn't a power outage, is an outdoor electric timer. I have mine set to come on at 6PM and off at 10AM. The heater has a thermostat, so if it gets to 80 it shuts off automatically. I also have a remote thermometer system from RadioShack. These tools make it much easier!

Mary, that looks great. Most thermostats don't go as low as 40.

Kell, this one came from Lowe's $7

Kaufmann, I have the timers on my lights. I didn't put the heater on a timer because I didn't plan to use it every night, only when it goes below 30 (outside temp) my greenhouse holds heat pretty good and according to the thermometer stay's 6-8 degrees warmer that outside. This morning (with heater) outside temp was 28, car was covered in frost and gh was 47. Of course, I know that as winter progresses it will have to be on every night, maybe even some in the day.

Ihughes: My theory...better to be safe than sorry, and sometimes I'm too busy to turn on the news to see what the lows are to be. Its been getting down into the 20's at night for the past couple of weeks, so... what can I say :). Besides, it doesn't cost that much to run it. And it keeps it about 25 degrees warmer than the outside temp.
