Brugbugs

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Hi everyone - Another screamingly inexperienced post.

I have probably 15 or so brugs in the sun room. About half of them (not the cuttings, but the full plants) have critters on them. When I move the plants or water, hundreds of tiny white flying flecks start flying around.

What are they?

Are these harmful to the brug or just annoying?

What's the best way to get rid of these? Should I try to wash off the yellowish specks on the leaves?

Sorry for such an obvious question - and maybe there are others out here with the same problem.

Many thanks in advance,
Sandra

Sounds like Whiteflies. Pesky little creatures. I've used Sevin on them outside and Avid in the house, but Avid needs some time to settle so if you have it and can spray and leave for several hours it would be best. I'm sure many of the products on the WalMart shelf would also work on Whiteflies.

Thanks, Brugie... I'll see if I can get some. I'm quite the novice - and am truly hoping I can keep my plants through the winter.

Sandra, I think there is a clear Sevin now. If you could find it, I'm sure it would work. Hope you get them under control. Also, the sticky traps will get a lot of them, but they seem to like the under sides of the leaves, so spray under them as well as you can. Good Luck!!

Sandra, I think Brugie gave you great advice. It sounds like whiteflies to me also.
