Dr. D's Background

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi Y'all,

I know that this question is more for beginners so please don't be offended in advance for my asking this question. I searched on "Google" a bit before deciding to post this. Since I did not find my answer in the threads returned by Google including DGs, I wanted to ask those that really know about Dr. D.

I rec'd a very nice cutting of Dr. D, but I don't know much about it in particular. Like, color, fragrance, preferences & hardiness?

If anyone doesn't mind giving me a quick background on this Brug, I'd be most appreciative!!! Thanks!

i do not know the history or background of Dr. D. here is what is in the Plants Database for brugs http://brugmansias.com/go/53647/

I think it is one of Erics'. Ask tiG(Bonnie). I have it also, grown plant.

Morph, 'DrD' is 'Dr. Seuss x Ecuador Pink'.

Thanks everyone!

And, yes, (had to go check) it is one of Eric Knight's.

it's a very nice one too, you'll like it!

LOL ~ after reading through everything and some connected links, I found Eric's "New Datura x Brugmansia" thread ☺ I forgot about that one, but it was fun to reread it and the possibilities seem endless! Also, it made more sense reading it this time around ~ that's why I was LOL. Thanks, again, y'all!

tiG, I have to say that I don't think there exists a brug I would not like ~ maybe that's a newbie thing? I REALLY need a greenhouse and am beginning to wonder how I can transform my son's treeless treehouse into one. He doesn't use it much, but it's built of wood :( When I read other posts about the greenhouses, I see LOTS of plastic; not wood.

Here's a BIG GO FOR IT!! with the tree less tree house.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

yep, go for it!!

If you could insulate and perhaps heat the treeless treehouse so temperatures remained in the 40's or 50's (?) you might be able to use it to keep large brugmansias in a dormant state overwinter, much as in a spare room.

I was so disppointed when I read that Datura x Brugmansia thread, as that cross is an elusive goal of hybridizers; he just wanted to get our attention!

Thanks for your vote of encouragement on the "tree less tree house converted to possible green house" ~ lol!

John, being gullible didn't help much with my first read on that thread!

LOL Morph-You know what mine is? It is a porch cover-with some re-inforcing and covered in layers of plastic instead of the screen that we put on during Summertime! My husband promised me he would build me a permanent one for next year or at least turn our porch into a sunroom that I can put them in! I know you can do it! LOL I have been that desperate the last few years-it works!

Hey, Morph, could you use the wooden structure as "potting shed, and storage", and add on a structure with clear panels for the gh? Mine is a "shed" style, attached to the garage with a door into the garage and I keep all my junk in there leaving the gh just for plants. I would send a photo, but can't find it in my files.

Lhughes & Jenks, that might be possible? I'm thinking it might look more like a human habitral than anything else. I'm sure that would require some type of zoning ordinance which we did not get on the treeless treehouse...

I do have a doggie door that might expand into a bigger clear panel structure? Think that might work? It comes out of the garage...

I am amazed at how the plants can just take over and plan about anything you want to do including vacations!
