Change a key to another use?

Isn't there some way to make a keyboard key do something other than what does when it comes from the factory?

Sometimes I wish I had a "delete" key that my left hand could use. Since I seldom, if ever, use the ~ or the ` is there someway I can make that key a "delete" key?
