Wolf dogs are as man made as any dog.
DOGS are NOT "natural"- they were all made by man.
Surely no-one will dispute this fact. :-)
It is not illegal to have wolfdogs where I am.
My animals are not "vicious".
The male is timid and DOES fear man outside his home.
He doesnt go after people, he slinks away if he feels threatened, unless that is if someone corners him.
As with ANY animal-he would defend himself.
The female is more doggy- VERY low content wolfdog.
She'd lick you to death at worst.
Just as with ANY "dog"- there are people that cant properly care for them. They dont meet the requirements it takes to keep them,and those around them safe.
All dogs have prey drive. ALL of them.
My wolves would be less likely to attack a man than some others guys poodle would.
I dont think we should kill a species off. It's not right.
When I have kids I want them to see what I see when I go for a walk through the woods. But I still think predators have no place in populated places. Id much rather kill a bear/wolf than have it attack my daughter.
It CAN happen, when an animals popualtion starts to grow, disease grows with it. Rabies. That would make even the most timid of animals attack a person.
And- when held beside people, wild animals that are normally timid, LOSE their fear of man-that can and HAS become a problem.
The good wolfdog-dog "owners" socialize thier animals.
Though it wont CHANGE them entirely, it does make it a bit safer to have people around them.
Any animal is dangerous. Plain and simple. They have minds of their own.
We use wolves and wolfdogs to educate the public.
We bring them to schools and nursing homes,etc.
A wolfdog is better to handle in public than a "pure" wolf.
They are (not all mind you) not as timid as wolves.
Most "pure" wolves cant handle the stress of public places.
It can kill them, the stress that is.
For anyone to say it's wrong to have a wolf dog- they should say it is just as wrong to have a great dane.
