hi, im new. found the brug forum randomly this evening. they are really beautiful flowers. unfortunately im trapped in a tiny apartment with a 4' by 10' patch of clay, in which im subjected to killing mums right now. anyhow, my question is kinda basic and dumb, but from yalls threads, you guys seem nice enough to answer my little question :)...what does DH stand for? I have picked up that it refers to husband, but whats the d? haha. and are brugs related to daturas, as they seem really similar to me.. or are they the same thing? thanks yall, Susanne
Newbie questions...
Welcome Susanne! Glad you found us!! When I first starting chatting online I also had no clue about DH! Usually it means dear husband but it can mean dull, dumb, or even dead........ depending how you use it. And sometimes only the writer knows for sure!! LOL
Daturas are different! Some nurseries still have them under the same name so beware. Generally speaking the daturas are smaller and have their flowers pointing up while brug blossoms hang down. Though there are a few now that point up like Bert. I believe daturas are usually grown as annuals while brugs can also be grown as annuals but many here will go to elaborate lengths to overwinter them.
I would say you have room for 3 brug trees!
I always assumed it meant Dear, but I am getting a kick now out of looking at it as a possible Dumb! LOL I am a newbie too Susane, but I think you could just plant your other flowers around the trees in your plot- I think you could maybe sqeeze a few more in, especially if you got cuttings from the tops of a brug, then you could plant those (shorter ones) between the trees! LOL
Welcome Susanne. Glad you stumbled across this forum and hope you will come back and visit with us.
Jenks, I like your thinking! LOL. I too beleive in cramming in as much as possbile! And welcome to you!
hahah that cracked me up. not only the DH part but your cramming suggestions! thank you for the welcome. i am counting down the days until winter is over and we just now had our first freeze last week. so brugs are cold weather plants? ive only been in this apt for 4 months-- but i think with yalls encouragment i could have big plans!
I wouldn't consider them cold weather plants. To be sure that one would live over, you would have to take cuttings and keep them in the house or bring the plant in. They do freeze back to the ground in warmer climates and where I live, they just plain die!!
welcome art_n_garden! Theres lots of info here, and people are so willing to help!
Welcome, Susanne. Hmmm, at least 3 Brug trees, maybe 8 in 3 gallon pots set into two rows... You will find room!
Where there's a will, there's a way......Just that some of us here have really, REALLY strong wills........
