charles grimaldi or dr. seuss

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I know that there is a debate going on over which is which. I have this plant that I know as CG my Dr.S is not large enough to do a leaf comparison on but could somone tell me which they think this plant is.

The flower is not good in the pic but you can see the leaves well.

david it looks great to me, a very pretty bloom

CG has smooth leaves, David. Sometimes on new shoots they are serrated but chnange to smooth. Dr. Seuss always has serrated I believe.

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Looks like the leaves of either Solid Gold, Dr. Suess or Whisker's by the shape of the leaves. Hard to say just what it is since the leaves are similar to each other

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

well by looking at the pics Donna has posted my CG looks more like Dr. Seuss. That particular plant in the photo was given to me by another brug grower and was labled as CG.

The close up of the flower looks like mine also. Are the blooms on the two that similar or should I be able to see a noticeable difference?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sure looks like Suess. For me, the CG blooms are bigger. I'm still out on this one myself.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I've never had a CG bloom. My Seuss starts out light yellow, next day golden yellow, next day orange. Are the photos current (in the gh now)? All of my leaves have fallen off.

here is my CG in the beginning of the season. Can you get a good look at a flower? I just had Dr. Seuss blooming and they look very similar to me.

Kell, that brug picture is just gorgeous. I have a single bloom on mine out in the garage and it smells good out there all day. Blooms are holding for almost ten days to two weeks now. Wish it was in the house. Love all the color your pictures have in them.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I want mine to grow up to look just like that. Your photos are so beautiful.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

What flower Kell? Can't see em!Sure do see the great white bulbs in the pot!!!
Top ones sure look dark for Suess to me.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

OK ...What I see Is David's bloom has a thinner corolla and Kell's CG bloom has a thicker corolla fitting snugly into the calyx. So I believe that out of the 2 choices I would lean towards Dr.S
IMHO

I bought CG a few years ago from Logees, and it is a gold color and for me doesn't change color, and is very fragrant. I would say from my experience David, that the one in your photo is not CG. Donna
