colder than witche's tits in a brass bra here this morning!!
We had a light frost twice in early Nov. but last night IT WAS COLD!! When I left ot go to work this morning it was 27 and snow white outside.
Anything that those 2 earlier frosts didn't kill, that one last night did and our night time temps for the next 5-6 days is supposed to be in the low to mid 30's with day temps ranging from 55-70.
I know some of you are having it much worse than we are but it was just sudden for us. Hot then cold! Real cold!
I did go inside the gh at 5:30 am when I went out to start my truck and the temp inside was a warm 50.
It Was
It got down to 29 deg. here 2 mornings in a row, Friday and Saturday. That is unusual here in South Texas this early. The weather forecasters had said we were going to have a warmer than usual and wet Winter. Now they are saying it is going to be dry, so that probably means it is also going to be colder than usual. So much for all their expensive weather equipment. lol
LOL, that's about how cold it was here too. I still had some brugs blooming that made it through the last one. This time everything got burnt black. :(
Did you have a heater in the greenhouse? Or did it stay 50 anyway?
I'm about to put up a greenhouse so I'm curious.
Kris
LOL, David, wonder how long that will stay before censoring begins!
T'was 29 here this morning--I hate cold!
:)
Kris,I do heat the gh with propane.
IT's no fair that you Florida and Calfornia brugies still have flowers and the rest of us have charlie brown brugs right now!!
Hopefully that expression won't get us censored. Just trying to put a little humor on the subject.
And thank goodness for the humor, it's pretty dry in here lately ):
Made me smile....not to know how cold you were, just the phrase. Snow flurries may fly here by Tuesday. Then back to about 50 by Friday. Strange weather pattern.
Dave, let it stay. Icy cold needs special words.
It has a bit of a Shakespearian sound to it. LOL
Ok by me to let it stand, we are not children, have heard it all.......cold here also, but maybe not that cold!
Evening Kell -
Oh my how sad they look....it's been cold here, but we rarely get frost because of the wind keeping things stirred up. It's probably the only good thing I can say about the wind.
That was 'Charles Grimaldi' in the picture, 'Frosty Pink', 'Double White', 'Herrenhauser Garten', and 'Pink Beauty' are all in the ground and leafed out but no flowers. With the exception of the DW they are all fairly small plants, but doing well. My 'Double White' dropped all its summer leaves when it finally finished flowering last month and now has a whole crop of fresh tender leaves.
It will be interesting to see how these do here being left in the ground.
Dave you weather is just as agrivating as ours. The lowest we have had was 31.7 but had almost hurricane force winds Thursday and Friday with this last front but it also brought 3 1/2" of rain we really needed.
David, you stole my favorite saying! LOL I have been saying that for the last two weeks - this cold, damp and windy weather makes me sick at heart - don't even want to go outdoors. Thank goodness for the brug babies you sent me or I would go into a deep depression - can't do that and risk hurting my babies, so will stand under the grow lights in my garage and enjoy them. Thanks again for your generosity!
Kell, ouch! Poor babies.
David, i live in California. we had been having frosty weather since late October. all my brugs on the ground are frozen! all my plants are ugly and brown, leaves crumbles to pieces. last week, we had a low of 26ºF.
surprisingly enough the past two days, it has warmed a little. i hope it stay that way, too sad all the plants got froze bitten :(.
When I was working in Maine this kind of weather brought forth the expression, "Eyup, kinda weather makes ya want to climb into bed with a good book or someone whose read one." :-)
Ha,Ha, David that is sooooo funny........haven't heard that one in a Coon's Age....bet it's really cold tooo.....
Dee
I kinda like Padre's post. LOL!!
That was a good one Padre. I like it!!
Padre and David, both good descriptions of horrid winter weather. While I was in VA visiting my daughter over Thanksgiving their weather was beautiful. Cheryl and i planted lots of bulbs and a couple of very pretty new campanulas, "Blue Wonder". She had bought 3 of them at a local grocery, quite small in 4" pots, blooms looked like lav. blue mini roses. She gave me one to bring home. I packed it carefully in acouple of heavy duty plastic bags we got at the Sugarloaf craft show in Maryland, and carried it home as my carry on luggage. Have to keep it inside until spring. Donna
Padre,I have not heard that in a coons age!
Darn and I was going to buy a brass bra. Didn't realize they were that cold. This post has not only been (up-lifting) but funny too.
Now David, that's cold! LOL It was 59 degrees here this morning which is a bit cool for some of us Floridians. I saw some people wearing woolen coats, hats, scarves and gloves. If it gets to 55 degrees, I'll bring out my winter gear also. :-)
At 55 degrees, I'd think it was a heatwave and be outside without my coat and probably would be in shorts. LOL!!
LOL me too brugie! Even at 45 degrees after a cold winter, all the windows are opened, it feels so nice! And I am FOR SURE in my shorts @ 55.
same here Shirley :)! 55º i wish will be the norm in my area instead of the lower 30's! oh my aching joints LOL!!!
Sure glad I'm not alone on this one. I'm finding that the older I get, the cooler I want to be too. Poor Jim just about gets frozen out of the house some days.
Gosh Shirley, we ALWAYS thought you were cool. lol
LOL Liz. Just read what I said. Older isn't always better....or smarter.
LOL you 2!!
Ahhhhh yes I remember (?) heheheh.
......When we were young everyone wanted to live in California because it was a "COOL" place to live.
......Now we want to live in California because it's warm ;-P
§
You know there may be something to this. We put stuff in the "Frige" to keep it fresh and from spoiling.
Now think about this Girls.......LOL
If we keep ourselves cool maybe we can keep our freshness and slow down our "Spoiling".
Burgie I think you may have hit on something here...........LOL
Dee
It's noooooooot working, Dee. LOL!!
You guys are funny! It's cold here too and stupid me locked myself out of my house yesterday with no coat and in my slippers! I was so mad which kept me warm for a while but eventually the cold took over. My DH turned the little lock mechanism on the doorknob, which we never use because we use the dead bolt. I stepped out to get something and, well the rest is history. Oh yeah, I had semi wet hair too. Wonder how I'll be feeling today???
Hope you weren't out there very long. At least they say you can't catch a cold from having a wet head. Colds come from viruses. I need to hide a key outside, just to be safe. The other day, I went out on the front deck to help Jim with removing the leaves from the gutter and locked the door behind me. Had I gone out to feed the birds while he was gone and shut the door, I would have been a bit chilly in my shorts. I guess I could always go to the greenhouse to keep the wind off me, but the heat isn't turned on in there, so it could get a bit chilly during a lock out. I usually feed the birds in my sock feet. Burrrrr!! Getting cold just thinking about what could happen.
About a half hour. The neighbor drove by and told me to go sit with his wife so I did. I'm running down the street in my slippers! Yeah, I kept telling myself it could've been worse: I could've been in shorts and a tank top with no socks and a totally wet head! Oh well....
Gosh, we do get outselves in messes sometimes, don't we? Sure glad you didn't have to stand outside all that time waiting for a key. Wish we had those programable locks here. Living in the country could mean a long walk to the neighbors and what if they weren't home? Dang, I'd be cool enough then. LOL!!
Gosh, if I ever got locked out in the morning the way I do not dress for my first look see in the garden in the morning, I would have to hid back there until Tom got home! It would be a long day!
