Wow this is rare I don't see flowers like it often. Is it really a tulip?

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

No, it is a curcuma. I think it is one of many up and coming plants from the orient. Very tropical looking, isnt it. I love it.

What an interesting plant. Is it on the market as a Siam Tulip? Very delicate and pretty. Is it very hardy?

Wow! Thats absolutely beautiful rylaff!

Actually, the common name for this one is Jewel of Thailand. The Siam Tulip is curcuma alismatifolia. I have asked Dave to correct this. I must have been half asleep when I did this one. This is what the Siam Tulip looks like. Sorry.

Curcumas are being introduced in the market over here just now. I will look for some if I have the chance. Very interesting plant.

Hi! Could I ask you these? 1-Could its bulbs be dugged up & replanted again after it flowered? Should it be stored first or replant immediately? Our temp. here is 20-31C.
2-Should I remove some scales before replanting it?

thanks.

I have stored the tubers over time without any problems.

I hope I can successfully plant my 5 Curcumas tubers that will give me good blooms by March- September.

Right timing is needed.

Thanks for the prompt kind response.

I planted some last year in April and had blooms by July/August on some. However, some did not bloom this year and I am hoping to get blooms this coming summer.

Roda,

Many Curcuma varieties will hold upwards of 6 months after being dug. We import them around January, and still have some viable ones in June. I did a trial with some in August, but they were down to about 50% response.

The biggest key is to not let them stay wet during their dormancy.

Nice pics Lisa.
