Morpho

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil(Zone 11)

This is a rare, big brazilian blue butterfly of the genus Morpho (dunno the species, though, but Iīll find out eventually). Itīs listed as one of the most endangered species of butterflies around here, and I was lucky to find this one in the botanical garden. Too bad I couldnīt catch it with its wings open, shwoing the iridescent blue color contrasting with the black margins.

#1- Itīs landed on a trash bin... not the best scenario ever, but I couldnīt miss the oportunity :^P

#2- Wings almost open... I hope you all can get an idea of what it would look like from this picture.

Beautiful butterfly, Mono. The last photo is especially nice.

Thanks... Though I really would like to have taken a picture of the wings open. I remember when I was a kid and this butterfly was still common over here. Now itīs so rare, I donīt know if Iīll have the oportunity to take pictures of it again.
