Newbie at brugs - confused

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Okay, I just got my first cuttings of brugs. Now what? How far apart do I plant them? Do they have to be in containers? I live in z9. Should I plant them now, or wait? If I do wait, what do I do with the cuttings?

I got them from Roadrunner at the AZRU.

Thanks a bunch.

Just don't do surgery on them...Roadrunner does strange things to her brugs!

Sqwid I guess the first question are they rooted or non rooted cuttings?(I know I sent both) If they are not rooted then yes you will need to put them in pots. I don't know about your zone but I think if it where me I would keep all the cuttings inside this winter in pots to give them a chance to root good. Maybe somebody else from you zone will have more info for you.

I still think a Brug info button would be great!

Lots of info and links here http://davesgarden.com/t/377874/

I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to look up something that has been written on a thread and now I've finally figured out how to keep them close. I made a folder and Titled it Brug Growing Tips and each time I open one of these links and it is one that I think I might need for myself or to refer someone to, I can go there, open the page, and copy and paste the link and post it. Going through all the old threads can take hours. This will be much quicker.

Brugie, did you make a folder within your Favorites folder or did you make a folder within My Files? Either way sounds like a great idea. I have just about given up on looking for a particular piece of info but your idea is a good one.

Frannie, I did it in My Favorites.

That's what I've been doing too. Since I was so new to Brug's I started going through old post. I keep what I think is vital in a folder in favorites...And I have a folder titled Brug Web-sites for on line information and web pages...I did the same thing for my passion vines....it works great.

Hi Sqwidgetz. I am I your zone. Since they probably are small, I would keep them on a sunny window sill all winter. They will grow some for you and then take off in the spring. It is too late to get enough root growth for them to winter over in the ground in zone 9A. If it got too cold they would die.

Are they rooted yet? If not I would dip them in rooting hormone, and stick them in dirt. I will send you the way I do it and you can try it if you want.

Hey Vi,
......good Idea , maybe a brug FAQ section, for reference only, so the FAQ's don't get lost.

I think this has been discussed way too many times, maybe we should take it over to the DG forum?

Hummmmmm....maybe someone could put a bug in Dave's ear and he could come up with something along that line that would work.......I know alot of times I want to know something, won't ask and spend hours going through old post doing searches looking for the answer. I don't want to take up time on something already discussed or mess up a thread with my ignorance......
Most of the questions I have found the answer, so lot's of the stuff us newbie's need to know is there, but boy is it time consuming.....

Thanks for the help all. I went to a website but it didn't have the answers I was looking for. I really don't have the patience right now to go through old posts. Thanksgiving is too close around the corner for me to be goofing off too much. I'm hosting so time is at a premium. Thank you especially Kell for the useful email.

I think that even tho you live in a nice warm area, you will still have cool nights at times during the winter months. I would put everything in pots, rooted or not so you can give them protection and warmth at night until they are growing well and the night time temps are warm again. Nothing will kill a young brug faster than wet soil and cold temps.

a lot of questions are already answered in the FAQ forum, a lot of threads were moved there.

Sqwidgetz, glad to help. You have my email now, just give a holler if you have a question and if I know the answer I will be happy to share it with you! Have a great Thanksgiving. Hope it all goes well!
