LOL!! He mended his evil ways! Later he worked so hard at my hobby that I forgave him. LOL! What are a few mangled RK X L'A pods??
We cut off all my suckers tonight and we got them all potted up. Big Yella had 3. Here is one of them. It won't even fit into the hoophouse? Tom is 6'2"!!
What a guy!!!
Uh oh. Now what you gonna do??? and what did you do to make him mend his evil ways??? LOLOL!!!!!!!
Apparently he enjoys helping you! What a nice tree. Would it fit into the hoophouse if you would dig a hole to sink the pot in?
Nice sized sucker. Hope mine will do that next year. So what did you do with it?
LOL Monika! I dare not ask him to start digging holes for me in the hoophouse. He may just dig one 6 feet deep and start making a big wooden box instead!
I had airlayered it but of course the rootball was not very big. I cut the top back by a bit and potted it up in a 15 gallon because the trunk was so thick and heavy. I needed the depth of the 15 gallon so it would not tip so easily. I then put them under my big banana. I should go and peek and see if they all did ok, including my banana. The leaves are as big as I am and that is big! LOL
Oh, he would not do that LOL! He would miss carrying plants and other things around and what most: the tickling feeling of danger getting shot LOL! Besides, he would loose an excellent cook and after that, only cold coffee and sandwiches LOL!
LOL Kell
He is "The MAN" and you can tell him we all said so!
Monika, I hate to admit this, but he does most all the cooking. My main contribution to this union is I am a great whiner and excellent eater. LOL
CC, then I would have to show him the thread and he would kill me! LOL esp the shoot him one! LOL I am so bad!
(((Oh Tooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmm)))
Do you have a brother?
My DH just finished helping me move all my mandevillas, hibiscus and pandorea vines up on our covered patio. He did a little mumbling and grumbling about not being able to walk on the patio because of the plants, but that was all. lol I covered everything with all the old sheets I could find. I had one old blanket to use as well. We were only supposed to get down to 35 deg. tonight, but they changed the forecast to 30 deg. tonight and the twenties tomorrow night. I really need to go to Lowe's or HD and get some heavy plastic to put on top of that. I don't know why I wait until the last minute every year to do this. I have a lot more plants I would like to save, but there just isn't any more room on the covered patio. How I long for my old greenhouse. Those were the good old days.
Mini - don't get plastic... it doesn't protect from the cold. Cardboard will give more protection than plastic will. If you can get some big boxes you maybe able to just cover some of the shorter ones...
Heavy plastic over the sheets wouldn't help? I have too many to cover with cardboard. I would like to be able to find some big boxes like Mavie used, but haven't had any luck finding any yet.
Minni, try the furniture stores!
Target will also save boxes for you. Rubbermaid containers and chests come in BIG boxes as do garbage cans. :)
It depends on how you do the plastic..
True if you just cover the plants then where the plastic touches plant will burn the plant and the plastic will keep the cold in long after it is above freezing.
They way I do mine is when covering with plastic I make sure the plants are not touching the plastic. Then I put a light bulb or heat lamp inside depending on the size I'm protecting. The next day I will either turn off the light and partly uncover or leave it in place.....depending on the temp that day......
I don't cover indivdual plants with plastic in winter this would gurantee them to freeze.
I have included a photo of my Bubble Greenhouse....6' round and about 6' high. It will recive more attention and a door this weekend.....this was a quick way to get the plants protected quickly.......

Very clever Dee! But my worry is putting something electrical in there.
In my hoophouse, the entire inside of the plastic has condensation on it and is dripping water if you shake it at all. Aren't you supposed to not let water and electricity mix???
Yes but the outlet is protected and the light is one of the brooder lamps that is also protected......my DH put this all up for me and he's pretty good a checking all those things out and making sure it's safe.
This was put up in about 30 mintues and needs some modifications on it. We'll get them done over the weekend since the weather is going to warm up again.....
This is just a temp. and in the spring we are looking at something a little more permenant that will do me for a couple of years......
I think he's getting the Brug bug to now. I show him all the photo's and so far that is the only one hes been intrested in........thats a good thing.......I think....LOL

Sylvia, you might try the big boxes that they use for wardrobe boxes when moving you, check moving companies, u-hauls, I have even seen them at Lowe's, they are really tall and one would fit nicely over a tall plant. Appliance stores may have washer/dryer boxes or refrigerator boxes that they are throwing out.
