Gladioli is sometimes used as a plural for Gladiolus, so they're pretty much the same. From what I've read, marble-sized cormels should bloom in a year or two, and anything smaller (down to pea-sized) should bloom in 2-3 years. Any confirmations?

Gladiolus = Gladioli

But Mark is looking for species, not hybrid. Most of what we grow is hybrid, bred for showy color and form (a good thing) but they don't come true from seed. (correct me if I'm wrong here ...)

All I have is hybrid, and very little of that.

yes Gladioli is plural for Gladiolus and yes I'm looking for species not garden cultivars.

thanks for the input anyway

That gladiolus is spectacular...so exotic. I don't have any species, but found a grower in the states that offers a few.

hi cheri... what kind of hybrid do u have? did u dig urs up to see if there are any cormels? if u would like some of mind i can send u them unless u dont like the colors... i got a bunch of hit parade seeds from a very nice lady over at GW .... i planted only two seeds to see if i could get them to sprout... well they sprouted and are still growing.. now if i let them die down could it be possible they would bloom this summer or next summer... i am new at the starting bulbs from seed... also i bought some seeds off of ebay they dont look like the hybrid glads... there is salmon glad. , and yellow and lavender glad.... have u ever seen a "true" blue glad??? i saw on a sight posted on the bulb forum, on their downloadable catalog , they have a bunch of blue named glads descibing them as sky blue and pale light blue... so IS there a true blue glad...any info would be helpful...thanx
