I scared myself!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I was on a short ladder harvesting Rosamond pollen and it was so laden with it that it was falling all over when I touched the anthers. It fell down on my face as I took a deep inhale! I felt chokey for a few minutes then head achy.

If I die, tell my DH what happened.....that my plants finally killed me before he could! LOL

See how it puddles.

and look at the Creamsickle pollen I took this AM in comparison, it is dry! I opened up almost mature blooms for these, as I did for the Rosamond. But the Rosamond is already fluffy in the closed bloom.

I wonder why it's so dry? Any idea, Kell? Maybe it's something to do with the variety or cooler weather? I was thinking. After inhaling...did you go and exhale in front of an open bloom? Now Kell...you could have accidently discovered a new way to pollinate? LOL Just kidding.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Beautiful sight, all that pollen. So glad you are still with us Kell.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

kell, you picked the Creamsickle pollen too early. It is a good pollen bearer.

The trouble I have Monika is that the stigma hides below the anthers, so I must pick them out before I can pollinate. I wanted to pollinate the Creamsickle with my new yellow aurea. A good match do you think?

I have no clue what to use the Creamsickle pollen on. Please give me some hints Monika, and not in German! LOL

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Oh my...I think I understand now ..why the anthers on some of the blooms appeared so dry this summer. I will be sure to wait a longer amount of time before I attempt to harvest in the future. Thank You, Monika

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Your so funny Kell!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Rosamond wins again!! She is good for just about everything, isn't she Kell. Great looking pollen.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

LOL in english! I would use Creamsickle pollen on a good yellow or golden x candida or aurea and I think, it will be a good match. Just for a try, also on CG or Dr. Seuss. Creamsickle can be pollinated with any good x candida, preferable in yellow. You also might try EP but I dont have made too good experiences when concetrating the versicolor genes too much in doubles. Many doubles out of these crosses have deformed flowers.

Kell, I've worked with kids who were addicted to sniffing glue and coke - but brugs!! I hope the excessive amount of pollen in your sniffer didn't have any deleterious - delirious effect affect on you. At least now you have first hand knowledge of what a bee goes through. :-) Glad you weren't hurt. Edit: Anyone ever see a bee sneeze?

Padre, don't know who's the funniest, you or Kell.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Gee kell, maybe you should give us hourly posts so we'll all know you're OK! Hope you learned a lesson (;

Did you do the sniff test of DS and OY for me yet?????

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

LOL Kell. Hope you don't have a bad trip. Seriously I often wonder if we could be affected by cutting them and stuff if it gets in a cut or something.

Mukwonago, WI(Zone 5a)

Donna... You have a good point here. I jokingly mentioned something to Kell earlier and have to admit. I never thought about any side effects. However...With the way things are today..our polluted air and a multitude of chemical use...perhaps we should all exercise some caution.

Sorry little Kell...I wasn't thinking thoroughly when I commented on your incident today. Hope you are OK.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I hope you didn't go anywhere with that pollen under your nose.....

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, you need to let us know that you are O.K. I have checked back several times this afternoon hoping to see a post from you.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Sorry! I just got home from work, went for my walk with my DH and then came right online! I am fine! Actually I was a little worried after I read how that poor teenager mutilated himself after ingesting them somehow, but I did not even get high! My reality sadly was the same as usual but on the other hand thankfully it did not get any worse either!! LOL I did really get a huge dose of pollen though!

I will go out right now Vi!!!

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

you know----I have to ask myself if perhaps you could umm---accidently acquire whatever kinna *buzz* ppl get when they *do* brugmansia? I mean your sinuses are moist like your mouth and I guess pollen could cause a similar reacition maybe? Kell if those flying monkeys show up later---------------?? well?? hmmmm I dont know---dont opperate heavy machinery? speaking of pollen CC,---once i went to lowes and was sniffing an oriental lilly and got ALOT of rust colored pollen under my nose--ppl kept staring at me, but I had no idea why until I FINALLY left the garden department and back to where DH was--needless to say---he clued me in. It looked like a 3 day old nose bleed.... :S lololol

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I cut some Stargazer lillies, took them over to moms', had a white blouse on. She told me to go look in the mirror, my white blouse had blood red stain all over the front, where I had held them.

Glad you are ok Kell.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Dang kell, just loved that "if I die..." line ): Did you by chance major in Drama? Shame on you, you did scare a few of us!

OK, it's been an hour, are you now lost in Brugland?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Vi! I did! I started to download the pics I took today so they would be done by the time I got back in and before I could get up to go out I got an IM from a friend and then of course when done talking, I soon forgot all about going out and was evaluating the pics. SO SORRY!! But you know I lent my brain out to a friend and it got lost!

The answer is THEY SMELL EXACTLY ALIKE TO ME!!! Which is funny, because Tracey and I were talking yesterday and she said she thinks Big Yella is a cross bwtween CG X Dr. S. She said because all the plants are so similar but yet different, she thinks they just keep crossing those 2 brugs and grow their plants by seeds.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

You did major in Drama. That I would believe, LOL!

Big Yella sure does seem alot more orange to me, that's what I like, wasn't it the same one as your friends with that gorgeous orange photo you took? Glad to know about the scent--I'll plant it a bit further away now, lol!

Thanks dear (:

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, hers was from the same growers. But it is not exactly the same. I bought 3 of them and all 3 are in the ground. Big Yella has the best color and gets the biggest. The other 2 bush out by nature and Big Yella suckers alley trees.

It starts yellow and does turn pumpkin. I have its brother on the side of my house. I should go out and look at it. I never water it or feed it. Not even in the summer. It could be dead by now but I doubt it. This is a hardy plant!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Padre: No but I have seen a bee's knees.....

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

Golly geekers, and fly's eyes You're dating yourself !!!! HaHa :-)

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

They don't call them BORRACHERO trees for nothing...can cause lots of symptoms if too much is inhaled(pollen) but death is rare...LOL OOPS! LOL

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

AHA! Dramatic symptoms, lol?

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Here is a question. I was cutting back this year with a brand new pair of clippers, I got to a big branch and grab a hold of it real tight, about the time I clipped my DD yelled I turned and clip. Well it did not hurt, more like a pinch, but I bled like crazy. I didn't even know I was cut till I felt the blood run down my arm. Question finally, does anyone know whether they have some kind of anticoagulant in them, they definately have some kind of numbing action. That cut healed very quickly I might add.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

you were hallucinating!

It really wasn't cut...LOL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Ha! I've cut my fingers with those darned clippers many times. I really wasn't cut, but boy, something bled like a stuck pig!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I bet it does have then Susie said the same thing happened with her. Kell help me, would a vasodilator, in a wound make you bleed worse? Remember when Susie got the juice in her eye, and the pupil dilated for 12hours. CC if that a hallucination, I don't want to cut me for real! I would have to visit the blood bank.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee, if it was absorbed fast enough I guess it could. Though I would think it would bleed out of the wound too fast. A vasodilator causes the blood vessels to relax or expand and this increases blood flow thru the blood vessel. Viagra is a vasodilator.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I was just kidding about the hallucinations.....

I've had the juice dilate my eye 2 times, the last time it lasted 2 days......They were not going to let me work cause they were convinced I was on drugs or had a head injury....
Gee,maybe thats why I've been drug tested 4 times this year?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL CC! They may ust be wondering why you are growing hallucinogenics, CC!

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

this is your brain--this is your brain on brugs? any questions?
