Nice color to have in a bed. The contrast with the other plants you have is really interesting. I didn't realize that Dragon's Blood had this kind of foliage. Is it a special cultivar? Thanks for the photo.

HI "Guys" :)... as far as I know that is just Dragons blood, nothing special, they just bloom like crazy in the really gravelly, well drained soil I have. The tall purple plant is liatris spicata, originally from a small bulb, it grows and reseeds itself at an alarming rate but so beautiful and easy to care for. It blooms from the top down, very, very interesting plant. I have just let them go crazy and I always get comments on them. They add that nice height in the blank spots. Thanks for enjoying the picture !!

I would like to get some of this plant for this year. It seems to grow like my Bolivian Jew plant. I lolove the color of the foilage. Do you know where I can get some??

Hi Buffy, I bought my original plant at Walmart for $.89. On the tag it is says,
Perennial, water miser, Sedum Spurium "dragons blood", that is all the tag says. It may also be called Green Mantle though. There seems to be so many kinds of sedums that I am still confused as to what is what. I bet U I could take a stem off my plant, toss it in an envelope and as durable as this plant is, it would probably make it to your house and survive just fine.. lol lol lol ... : )) If U want me to try to send U a piece I would be glad to do that. Just send me an email with your address, title it Dragons Blood so I know it is U and I can try that. I would not be 1 bit suprised if it would survive just fine. I have dropped a piece on hot asphalt, walked all over it, my hubby drove over it, I stuck it in the ground and it grew like a charm, ROFL !! an amazing plant. Let me know : ))

I was wondering. How do I prune back the GayFeather(Liatris Spicata) and the Red Hot Poker(Torch Lilly)?
Thanks,

Roswell, GA

I'd like to know that also!

As far as pruning the Gay Feather~ liatris Spicata. I wait for them to completely die off. then pick up / trim off the dead brown leftovers. It seems to keep them thriving. I live in Washington and we freeze. If U don't freeze. I would just wait for most of the folliage to die back and cut off at ground level. Good luck !! : )))

What time of year does the Sedum 'Dragon's Blood' get the very dark foliage, like in your photo. The other photos on Dave's site have green foliage. Your picture looks more intriguing!
