Schultz Moisure Plus Watering Crystals

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Helps prevent overwatering, anyone every try this, the DH brought it home to me to try.

Helps deep soil from drying out and releases water from the gel as it drys out, and it releases to the roots slowly

I use these wonderful mositure retentive crystals also. They release moisture as the soil begins to dry out. I use them with both potted plants in the house & plants in the garden too.

I would think they would be just the trick. The burning question is....would it be safe for Brugs? I would think it would but still...want opinions

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Julie, I use the water crystals when I repot my container grown brugs in the spring. The soil mixture that you have only has a moderate amount of the crystals in it and would be safe for you to use now. Just make sure that you let your brugs dry out in between waterings. Nat

Oh good, then I will do that. I wondered when he brought it home if it would be safe for this. He said that when the roots find the crystals they will drink from it, and pretty much like what you said.

Thanks Nat!

They work very well for starting brug seeds too. (Thanks PJ) Just moisten them, push seeds down into the wet crystals a bit, cover, and pretty soon you will see the seeds sprouting. I have a batch of them started right now that are just beginning to germinate. For what it is worth...I soaked a few too many crystals and left them sitting in a Cool Whip container and boy, do they get the gnats. They are just sticky enough that the gnats land and that is it.

That is interesting Brugie. You put peeled or unpeeled and in just the crystals or in dirt with th ecrystals in it?

The gnats die in there right?

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

That's correct kell lol...didnt know that about the knats but I can see why that would be true...it's just sticky enough like Brugie said to stick. Not alot but knats are teeny tiny.

Im going to do this...I cant seem to find the clear plastic like you did to blow in it, so I'll try my luck this way too and see what happens until I run up on a deal.

They are sitting in it now...even some seeds

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have only used peeled seeds Kell. My seeds are in a covered container, so no gnats get in it at all, but gosh, it is nice to find something that attracts the gnats (my Cool Whip bowl with moist crystals) and kills them without having to use spray.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh I get it Brugie! I will put out a bowl today. I already have them in my cuttings and I can't water them with mosquito dunks or i will rot them! So I am just sitting and waiting til they dry out.

you can use it with or without soil, but it's supposed to cut down on watering, which if you have alot of things planted, it's a great idea...

I love this product. It helps me because my arms are week and I don't have to water so often.

I'm going to suggest it to my mother and friends HoniBee, moma has arthritus and back problems so the less she has to bend the better. :-)
