Well, my husband finally moved the animal trap onto the patio, because we weren't having any luck catching the possum that has been digging up our flowerbeds. Night before last, the cat food was gone out of the trap, but no animal. Well, much to our surprise this morning, there he was inside the trap. But guess what? It was a big raccoon, not a possum. The guy that came to empty the cage said that more than likely there were 2 or 3 more around, so he brought the cage back. I never even thought about it being a raccoon.
Possum - not
Oh my Grannie, glad youre getting results for your traps though.
Wow Sylvia. Will people in town see you driving down the street with a coon tail hanging from the radio antenna now? LOL!! At least it wasn't a skunk. Glad you caught him and hope you don't have more.
I'm surprised a coon would bother the flower beds. I thought they just got in trash and made a mess. They don't dig ... do they?
lol@Brugie
Well, if they don't dig in the flowerbeds, then we have possums too, because something has dug up every flowerbed in our yard, front and back. I had planted about 40 new daylilies this Spring, and something has done a pretty good job of tilling our beds and uprooting my daylilies. lol
We have coons around here but I've never seen them dig anything up. Skunks will dig for bugs and I don't know about the over grown rats, Opossum. Hope you find what it is. Skunks don't like moth balls if that will help.
Armadillo's will dig also, they dig and root around for grubs, etc., and of course, squirrels dig for bulbs, etc.
Skunks are easy to catch in a trap, and as long as the trap isn't too tall they can't lift their tail and they won't spray if they risk getting any of the spray on themselves.
I just throw an old towel over the trap and load it in my truck.
I've trapped 28 skunks in the last 2 years(I think someone is trapping them and letting them go down here,State land across the street ,dead end road....)I let them go at a golfcourse, figure they would help with the grubs on the green....LOL
heck ,they're probably the people who are trapping and letting them go down here!I told my DH that I'm going to start painting them to see if we are trapping the same creatures OVER ,and OVER again
LOL CC, wouldn't that be one dumb animal.
We have lots of raccoons here. They live in the storm drains and come out at dusk. At night they play on my long skylights, running up and down them and sliding.
We also have possums. The first time I saw one I was sitting on my back porch and I thought it was my cat at first then I yelled to Tom we had a silver fox. He still is laughing at me to this day.
We also have skunks. A family is living under our porch, we think. They drink the cats' water so the cats won't drink out of our special pedestal crystal bowl I bought just for them.
None have ever touched my gardens. The raccoons would sit on my little pod's edge, push the plants to one side and fish.
Oh dear! Sounds as if ya'll are saying the raccoon's not the culprit. Darn, hope my neighbor's not correct in saying she saw a skunk. We've had possums before, but they have never caused as much damage as what is going on now. I think I smell a skunk! LOL
