Northern Rivers NSW, Australia(Zone 7b)

Holty, hello! Heliconias are very tropical. Mine go dormant even in our mild winters. Can you bring yours inside for the winter? With temps that low, I'd be worried about them not surviving the winter. Hope this helps!

The Plantsdatabase says they are hardy to :
USDA Zone 10a (1.6° C to -1.1° C)

Are you saying that temps in your area get as low as 10° Celsius in the winter? If so, you should be ok. But I'm not real good at this Metric stuff... =)

10° Celsius = 50° Fahrenheit, right? But maybe I misunderstand ...

Thanks for the replies . Sounds like Dave needs to add a little conversion table somewhere on the site!Just checked a thermometer yep 10 is 50. Am converting some old stables into a hot house but the night time temp could get down to 40deg F at night without some form of heating .Expensive.

Hi John, (and sundry) there are 2 things I should *always* leave alone
1. being in high places(scares me to death)
2. using numbers for whatever reason...LOL...sorry the conversion being wrong on my part!

LOL, Lisa! I understand, I am also math impaired.

holty, the Heliconias should be perfectly hardy for you. Even with 40° F lows ... that makes your area cold hardy like zone 11. Lisa is growing them and we are zone 9.

Best of luck to you on your hot house!

Cheri'
