Rooting Creamsickle

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

I keep losing my creamsickle cuttings. I start them in water until they form the white nubs then I pot them up and only water every few day's. But they continue to turn to mush. Anyone with a better method. I have heard that these are a little harder too root.

Patricia, once you put it in moist soil, don't water it again until it is almost bone dry. See if that will help. I had no trouble rooting this one when it was warm outside, but have no experience trying to root it in cool weather or in the house. Good luck.

After getting roots in water, pot and water only around the stem(would guess maybe 1/4 cup or less of water)8" pot, then pull dry dirt from sides of pot, at stem line, press little to set in soil. I judge by weight of the pot, whether it is wet enough or not. Hope you understand this and it helps. I have 4 Creamsickle growing now, also all my cuttings are started now under light.

I was starting these in my hothouse with my hoya's and on heat. I may also have been keeping them too warm.
I had sent some cuttings to someone and they had trouble also, so I thought I would ask to help us both out. Thank you both for answering.

I had to come back and tell you, I usually only use small pots for cuttings, but when I tried to tell how much water, had to guess how much for an 8" pot. I usually have 3-4 cuttings of same one, so put them in 8" pot. I do not use any heat, only room temps. around 70-72 degrees(air). Good luck to both of you.

I root mine in water. When they have a few roots I pot up in a 2"or 4" pot depending on the thickness of the cutting. Water lightly and then don't water until the soil looks dry. I don't use a heat mat and I keep it in a light area but out of direct sun until it begins showing signs of growing.

Thank you all. I start some more and give it another try.
