What a beautiful salvia! Just wondering if you might have some seeds. My interest in salvia is growing since I read Betsy Clebsch's The New Book of Salvias: Sages for Every Garden.

That isn't a Salvia, it is a Cuphea.

I had recieved this particular clone in a flat that was supposed to be the darker red Cigar plant... ended up being a mixed flat. Just the same, it is an easy plant to grow and very floriferous.

DaisyJen, upon first glance the blooms do resemble a salvia, but they are much sturdier. The blooms on this cuphea are much smaller than the orange 'David Verity' cuphea which I have also. This plant is more of a sturdy bush than the salvias also. If you like salvias, you may want to try a cuphea too because their blooms are beautiful as well. Thanks for your comments.

Drew, what shade of red is the red 'Starfire' cuphea? I have never seen one. Thanks for your comments.

Mexican cigar is the top hummer plant in my yard. The red variety grows best for me. If there is no frost MC will flower 365 days a year. Every hummingbird garden should have several plants in different places in the yard.

Flicker, the blooms on this plant are very small compared to my other cuphea. I have seen the red 'bat face' cuphea. Is this the one you have? If not, about what size are the blooms on your red variety? Thanks for your input.

No, not the bat faced cuphea--though I have grown that one and it is a good hummer plant. The red cuphea ignea is a stronger plant than the pink. The flowers are a little larger. Sulphur butterflies love them as well as bees and hummingbirds.

Thanks for the photo. The pink does seem to be more delicate with smaller leaves.
