Thanks to these sweet ladies i have all these babies, and in a few weeks i will have more from david (catsmeow), and Mary on BGi I will go ahead and say thanks now.... so now my big question is...How often do I water these ? I am not use to raising my brugs in the house...
Thanks Brugie, TiG, and Jerodsmom
Most of them look so happy! I keep them on the dry side when they are rooting and filling out the pot. As they get more leaves they will need more water. Just feel the soil and when dry, water. Or I usualy pick up the small pots and can tell by the weight. Also the leaves get a duller look when they want water.
If you have central air they may dry out quickly. I usually take them to the sink and give them a shower as I water the soil. They love it.
Just want to add my thank you's also.. without them I only had a few plants and now have about 30 cuttings.. they go thru alot work wrapping, boxing, and posting these babies for us. I just do not know how they do it, Thank you. I also have mine like you, from reading some of the postings I read that you water them when the soil dries out. Would like to know if we need to fertilize though.
Hi Gourd. Another Californian! Where is Moreno Valley? South?
I would wait til they are well rooted. Do you want them to grow all winter? I fyou are in So Ca you probably can stick them outside in the dirt once well rooted. Then I would start fertilizing as soon as they are well rooted.
I cheat sometimes and spray the leaves with VF 11 early on. I use it like a tonic or vitamins.
Hi Kell, this should be called Moreno Desert..lol.. it is off the 60 going towards Indio and Palm Springs. It does get very hot here (low desert area). I border San Bernardino and Riverside right in the middle of Hemet, Perris area. There is a Lake called Perris Lake and I live about 5 miles away from that.
I have a ways to go then before I fertilize then, they just rooting now so will wait.. Thank you for the info. Where are you in CA, I envy everyone that is near the water.. gosh, it get's so much cooler there.
You will have to keep your brugs in the shade then I would think Gourd. I live just outside of San Francisco. I would melt where you are. Well maybe that would be good if my fat melted off! As I cooked I would be self basting.
you're more than welcome ss, I hope they do wonderfully for you.
I'm glad they are doing well for you. Just think, next year there will be more kinds....then what will we do.....guess buying the land next door isn't out of the question. LOL!! Good luck with your cuttings, all of you.
I came back to edit this post because I forgot to mention that I have also received a lot of cuttings this year. I can't begin to mention names because I would probably leave someone out. I have some special friends out there who sent me the most special brugs and a lot of good friends that helped fill my need for even more brugs. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for me, not just recently, but during the last years. Brug lovers are the best!!

Brugie, I think they do not call them friends but enablers! LOL
Kell, I think you are right....Where do we get help???
Hi Springsong, thanks for the picture. It sure helps me on what cutings to take and what to do with them. A picture is worth a thousand words. Did you use any root-tone or anything?
I just wanted to thank everyone too! My first months of brug addiction & it shows only signs of getting worse! Thanks you all so much for being so generous in getting my obsession off to a great start. I can't wait till my cuttings grow up!
Bambi
I'm with you Bambi....I have so many people to thank! And I certainly hope I don't leave anyone out! Thanks to Brugie, Kell, tiG, Springsong, Catsmeow, Poppysue and DonnaB I am off to a great start with this addiction! Everyone here is such a pleasure in everyway! I love the devotion to this site & BGI and how generous everyone is with their knowledge! I will be certain to pay it forward! Thanks again everyone and thanks Amanda for starting this thread!
Brinda :)
(Hopefully I didn't miss anyone:)
Brugie,
Maybe Dave will start a Brug Anonymous Forum. If he charged he could make a fortune!
Hi, I am Kell, I am a Brugaholic!
Anything that would help!! I've said it before and I'm still saying it and hoping it will work.....I've got to get a grip!!
Springsong, your picture looks like my little group but I only have about 15. I got them from kell, tIg, and (I think) poppysue and Padre. I am limited by very steep shady land, so I am planting them at work, at an historic mansion where I volunteer, and at the local community center. Now all I have to do is keep those watered, lol. Brugmansias are still relatively new here, so I really get some looks. Yesterday, I saw 2 ladies oohing and ahing over the one at the mansion. So I got a steak knife and cut off 6 pieces for them to root. You would think they won the lottery!
Yes i sprouted out some seeds this summer of some Great crosses, and gave them to the ladies at the church my husband,s Granny in kentucky and my husbands great aunt.I can't wait to see what they look like next year I will be driving around taking pictures.... some were Rosamand x L' amour crosses boy i didn't know what i was giving away but when they see that bloom that will be alright for me and If it is pretty I can get a cutting!!
What is VF-11?
Here is a website on it......... it is VF-11, sorry!

Kell, What other fertilizer do you use? I just ordered a gallon of Superthrive (had no idea that you only need a drop for a gallon). I'm determined to give my brug babies a good start! Has anyone used Spray N' Grow? I thought a saw a thread that mentioned it. VF-11 web site says to use it as the only fertilizer. Thanks everyone!
Bambi
back2back, there is a thread on what to fertilize them with and it appears, EVERYTHING! A lot of folks start off with manure in the spring, like Black Kow and I add bone meal to that. Some use Osmocote but don't stop there. They still supplement with commercial fertilizer and most seem to be using Peter's water-soluble fertilizer (which has trace elements that Miracle Grow doesn't have) frequently. Of course a soil test is a good idea too. My soil is very acid and I had to sweeten it a bit.
yes Peters is really good but they don't sell it any where around here. any one know of a good wholesale fertilizer site and greenhouse site to buy stuff wholesale?
I use a little of everything but I o foliar feed alot with Miracle grow also. I also use the cheap stuff at HD that is 16-16-16 and it works great for those in the ground. As soon as I get it together to go an hour away, I am going to go and buy that Peters Tracey uses and try it on my seedlings, hoping for a miracle there! LOL
I bought that stuff that Tracey uses and I liked it, but I think it would be best for when they are young as I didn't see a big difference in my brugs by the time I got it and used it for a while. I'm going to use it in the house and see if I can push mine a bit. Last summer it was just a bit too late when I got the stuff. It isn't cheap either, but thanks to a friend living close to a distributor and having a great friend who owns a greenhouse, I'll now be able to get it much cheaper with no shipping charges.
Let us know how it works for you Brugie. I think part of Tracey's great growth comes from the fact she waters with fertilizer every time or almost every time and does it with with a professional hookup so they get a constant feeding. I am hit and miss when I do mine.
I think that will be my biggest problem too Kell. Sometimes I see a dry pot and grab some water to hit it and forget the fertilizer. Then I water everything with water. However, I don't want my cuttings to grow fast and have never been heavy on fertilizer during the winter. I do want the seedlings to get a better start, so they will be the ones I focus on this winter and spring.
Me too Brugie, I am going to get them into the ground or big pots fast and early! I procrastinated so long getting mine into the ground last year.
I looked at the VF-11 website but didn't even see the N-P-K breakdown? Can someone tell me what it is? Does it have trace minerals?
