Can't win for losing....

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I have been very busy with my mother in Hospice that I didn't get the plants out of the garage yet. Well normally it stays nice and cozy warm out there till the end of Nov. Imagine my surprise tonight when I went out there to check the plants and it had froze hard inside the garage. My seedlings,my tropicals,my hibiscus etc were still in there.
I am such an idiot. :-( so will wait and see what survives. They are all indoors now.
Life Sucks sometimes.

Kyle, sorry for you to have such cold weather, probably came from our area. This past week every morning ranged from 12 to 14 degrees, and just above freezing daytime. It has warmed somewhat now. The leaves froze on the trees, no pretty fall colors here.

Hope most of your plants survived the cold. Hope your mom is okay. Donna

Hi, Kyle, I have been following this post with interest and I felt that I had to offer my prayers and condolences to you along with the others here. I am new to the forum, but what you are experiencing right now is something that touches each of us so closely. My heart does go out to you. If you lose your valuable plants, I want you to know that I would be pleased to send you whatever I can off my trade list on BGI. My ID there is "Fishcookie." Do not hesitate to inquire when the time comes again that you can returh to the comfort of gardening.

Wrap your arms around your mother and give her a hug and tell her you love her, and then give yourself a hug for being such a nice son. I never got to tell my mother goodbye, or tell her how much I loved her in her last hours, as she was killed in an automobile accident just about this time of year 15 yrs. ago. I've always regretted that I wasn't with her when she passed, but I know the Angels were around her to take her home. It breaks your heart to see a loved one suffer, but I know your mother is so thankful to have a son like to you to see to her needs and ease her pain. We are all praying for the both of you in this time of pain and sorrow.

Woodburn, OR(Zone 8a)

We will help you in any way we can, just ask!

sometimes, its not the big things that send us crashing-------its the little bitty things stacked up on the BIG things that can land us on our backsides. take care, and dont deny yourself falling apart during this journey, not just at the end. I have not walked this path, so its easy for me to say--------------but Im gonna spend some extra time with my moma,---she tended my garden --pruned me---weeded me---watered me----easy to lose site of all that until I read these posts, brings perspective back. cheryl

I really appreciate all the thoughts and prayers.it makes me feel so much better.I took the cat to see her again today..they also started the morphine for the pain..it will get unbearable by the end.She is strong of will and determined in mind so hard to say what will happen at this point. I inherited her strong will and determination so..hope I can weather all this. P.S. many of my seedlings came thru the freeze..once inside and warmed up they look better now..but many lost the growth tips.Oh well will just take longer to bloom.I think the first seedling to bloom next year will be called "Survivor"! :-)

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

It is amazing the strength you can muster up when most needed when you come visit those among us here at Dave's and BGI. We will keep you both in our thoughts and prayers. I know you all sure helped pull me thru the last couple years. Take care of yourself ... we are always just a post away!
