New Gardner Wants Texas Madrone

Midland, TX(Zone 7a)

I don't have much of a garden yet but if you wanted something from the arid southwest I'd see what I could do. (I can definitely provide Desert Willow and Mesquite seeds if asked but it would take time to prepare them). The Texas Madrone is such a lovely tree; I'd love to start a few from seed.

I don't know where you might find seeds, but I do know that madrones grown wild throughout Blanco County. An internet search produced this link for live trees. Maybe they could help you in your search for seeds. And yes, they are lovely trees. Good luck!

Thanks Kaufmann. You must be using a wiser search engine than I am, because I've searched and only found a place in the Netherlands plus Natives of Texas (but they won't ship or sell seed).

I'd have to road-trip to get to them (I still hope to someday). I'll look into the Wichita Valley folks but hold out to see if any of our fellow gardeners here at DG have seeds.

Nice horse. Nice dog. Lovely place. :)
