This is an interesting plant. Is it commercially cultivated?

I have one growing in my garden, that I bought from a nursery, but they are not very readily available. The genus Persoonia is notoriously difficult to propagate. Seed is very hard to germinate and cuttings are very hard to strike. I did have one seedling grow beneath my Pine-leaf Geebung, which I potted up, but it did not survive when it was planted out in a local park. I was told that most Persoonias that are sold commercially are from such accidental seedlings below known plants and that no-one has found a consistent way of reproducing them. I consider myself lucky to have two beautiful Persoonias established in my garden.

Australian and Brazilian native plants have this in common: they are very beautiful, different from everything else, but hardly seen in nurseries (or because they arenīt unknown, or because they are too hard to propagate and cultivate). Besides 2 or 3 Grevilleas, Casuarinas and Eucalypti, we have barely no Australian plants for sale here in Brazil, and as Iīm seeing here (as Iīve been adding new entries on PDB frequently), brazilian natives arenīt really popular in foreign countries either, besides a (notorious) minority.

Iīd love to grow those neat australian Proteaceae. Our Proteaceae are so ugly :^P

Some of our Proteaceae are hard to get seed from, but the Hakeas and Banksias are relatively easy and grow readily from seed. I could quite quickly gather some seed from several Hakeas, of which the Pincushion Hakea - Hakea laurina [ http://plantsdatabase.com/go/56275/ ] and Sea-urchin Hakea - Hakea petiolaris [ http://plantsdatabase.com/go/56276/ ] are both very attractive. let me know if you would like some seed.

Ah, thanks, but I canīt accept that. There are too many restrictions regarding importing/exporting biological material in my country (itīs even a pain to get herborized specimens from foreign herbaria). But I do hope that someone with all those authorizations starts to plant some australian plants over here.
