Baa, Thank you, I may have to resort to the UK across the ocean, but they seem to occur all over the Eastern USA, can't think why some one doesn't have them available. I gather they can become a weed if they like the situation - no danger of that here - we have hot dry summers.

Ahh now a hot dry summer won't suit this Allium, if you have a pond with some shade it might be easier to grow it in the shallows.

The dairy farmers here don't like them as they taint the milk when the cows eat them and the smell is something else!

Useful when you're out and need a bit of extra flavour in your sandwich though LOL

Hi Pilomel, Garlic lover that I am I'd love to try them tasty lil alliums. So far all I've located is a source of seeds- May have to grow my own as I'm no fan of traveling. These are mostly used medicinally-seems to be a lot of questions about just what the species is, and/or is it native to North America? Got any ideas?

Hi Carolynn :)
Baa's link above gives the sp - Allium ursinum - and a very good description. They should grow easily from seed if you find them a damp shady patch.
They're certainly native to the UK, I'm not sure about the US. They can be invasive - so bear that in mind

Here they are growing in a local wood with the bluebells:

PHILOMEL,Thank you for the great picture- we have something here that looks similar-leaves not so wide though-that tends to make a pest of itself. nice little bulbs about 3/4 in. in diameter that are crisp and tasty(garlic) but I get a rash around the lips if I eat them. Will try to send a picture when I learn more about my new digital camera. Thanks again!
