Brought this little one in as usual but may have brought it in prematurely cause it is getting big inside already! In past years have always brought them in and they stayed small until ready to put outside in spring, oops RU material!
Elephant Ears
He's lookin good. Bringing him in didn't stunt his growth any. I have a pot full of Ruffles, that keeps on growing too. I have some illustris in the fish pond on the sunporch that are growing like mad too. The others are just sitting enjoying their winter vacation.
Candee, can you give them good light?I'd whack them off, lift them and fill the pot, then set the bulbs back, keep moist not soggy, see if you have pups, give them room too.
Looks great is it Black or Ill.?
If you pull it up,I'd like to see the roots,to see which one it is.

Yes, that looks like a nice EE to me=)
I purchased it about 5 years ago and it was supposed to be the black one, but never got truly black, just semi-dark green leaves. Gets enough light root, been keeping them in the same spot for many winters. Just don't remember them growing so fast once brought inside. I dig the entire (huge) plant and then just pull off a few pups and bring inside, but that was just 4 weeks ago and these are going crazy. Oh, well, I like it.
Thanks all. Mitjo, thought you'd be more interested in that star jasmine that is behind the ears!
Hehhehe, I didnt know what it was at first...It sure is nice too, beautiful....How old is it?
I am guessing I have brought it inside over winter for the past 6 years. It gets full of blossoms in spring and smells heavenly! I have nursed it back from near death three times due to mealy bugs, but it is strong and healthy now.
Candee, I keep mine in the shade during the summer and it gets really dark. Any chance it is getting too much sun while outside? Mine is a little tall right now too.
Actually, it is in almost all shade. It only gets a bit dark though, starts out really green like above and then just gets a darker green.
That is strange. They are so much more pretty when they are black. Hope you figure out why it isn't doing what it is supposed to. Maybe it isn't Illustris afterall.
That's what I figure Brugie, I didn't get what I expected. I have had this plant for anumber of years and it does get dark, especially in the house when the lights are out LOL" but never got black. May try ordering another next year or some time!
I recently found some EE's in someones trash and brought them home. I was thinking of planting them in the ground in the spring. I need some suggestions from you all for care of them. Sun or part shade? accidic or what type of soil. I will put them back in a pot if necessary. I have seen them in peoples yards and would like to plant them . Help!!
They like the shade and lots of water initially, least that is what mine like. Wait for a better response as they may be hardy in AL and you could leave them outside all year. They do get quite large so keep that in mind!
I am in the middle of the state of Alabama so maybe i can leave them outside all winter. Thank you for the response. I have heard several things about their care but am waiting for more suggestions. I will be able to do something with them tomorrow since i am off work then. I want to make them thrive if possible. Thanks again, Robbie
