Digging up my Brugs

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

I'm sure there's an answer for this somewhere, but I can't find it. So I need some help. I just dug up Brugs that were in the ground. Cut some major roots, and of course now they are wilted and sad. I'm sure they'll come back (Ihope)Any advice?

Just keep them out of the sun until they are perked up and be sure not to overwater them. They may take a few days, but I'm sure they will perk up and be fine.

I think Kell & Monika said to make a tent for them(big, clear garbage bag)they transpire less and perk up faster, just keep them out of the sun.....

Normally when you dig something up you would have to compensate for the root loss by trimming back the top growth.
I have never dug brugs up before, but I'm going to in a few weeks. I will be cutting mine back when i do.

Yes, you should cut back the top the same amount as you cut the roots. If you had them in the ground and can't tell, cut back 1/2 of the canopy and all the biggest leaves. If it still struggles, I would do more. Leave some growth on top of your Ys. Try to leave 5 or 6 nodes so you get good growth next year fast. I find if you at least take the big leaves off, it lets the new little leaves live.

I tent all my trees I cut in a most plastic bag upside down and secure it with velcro around the stem. it really helps.

Thank you, all of you for your great advice. I think I'll follow the cut back the top advice because to cover them with plastic would take two ladders, three people, and a VERY large bag! ROFL at that mental picture.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to dig up a few this year and keep them going in the GH over winter.
