coops

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

I've been checking out our southern neighbours bulb/plant coop purchases and getting greener by the minute. Have the canucks on Daves ever tried such a thing? Would it be feasible? Does anyone have any info about how we might go about such a thing? The prices and selections I am seeing are making me drool. Thinking about becoming a bulblegger.

Sounds very interesting. We'd have to figure out how we could benefit from a co-op and how to do it. Let's read over some of their older threads on co-ops.

I'm not sure we have enough Canadian subscribers here on Dave's..but I would be interested...if we could save money. It just seems to me that the postage can eat up any savings made by doing a co-op. But then I am lucky to have several good garden centres in my area.

Don't know if I can help but if you need plants brought across the border, I make quite a few trips. Will be heading to Regina in Aug. May be to NW of Toronto in April.

jumping up and down with joy.....you've got mail :))))))))))

kooger, how do you bring them in to Canada? We've always understood this to be a BIG problem.

If they ask, and mostly they don't, I say they are mine and it's no problem. I was naughty and brought a black currant across about 15 years ago, which was not allowed until 2-3 yrs. ago. Now I laugh when I see the seed catalogs that have a big label NEW! beside them. My Oma (GM) had them in Holland many years ago and the Blank Currant Juice/Sauce in European delis is usually from Switzerland or Poland. It is just scrumpious on icecream or Dutch pudding - similar to custard. I will go to the Can. website and read the latest rules on border crossing. Lots of things have changed since 9/11.

The black currant sauce is about 1/3 each of cooked, sieved juice, sugar and water. It's great over icecream. .....I looked at the Canada Customs website and it looks like I would have to have a phytosanitary(sp?) certificate to bring anything in. I'll inquire into what that involves.
