How sweet of Frances to bring ya a brug.(thinking Frances what have you done?) lol. Jo you won't kill it. We have faith in you.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Jo, Isn't it exciting when we see that first bloom. I had four of my seedlings bloom out recently. I was a little dispointed because they all turned out white, but it was so exciting to watch them grow and form those first buds. Now I have two crosses with buds on them, so I am anxiously waiting to see how they turn out.
Congratulations !!

Patricia

Congrats Jo, Are you hooked on the scent yet?

Just think, you've beaten GW at something, she hasn't smelled a brug yet...Have you Kimberly?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Congratulations Jo on your first bloomin Brug.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And look at all that pollen in there. Looks like such a great plant. Compact and full of buds. Enjoy!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Jo you are a lucky duck! I still havn't smelled a blooming brug even though I DID have two of them bloom. Neither of my bloomers had any scent at all. Someday soon I hope to smell one blooming.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

If that is Monster Brug White Suavelons Hybrid it is from my plant. It is hard to kill. Beware is grows to be massive in size thus the name I gave it. It grows anywhere to about 15' wide to 12' to 15'tall and it Y's, Y's, and Y's some more. It is heavily scented and not much of anything bothers it. I have had nearly 200 blooms on her at one time

DonnaB...yes, your's is the Mother plant as that is what Frances told me. I look forward to a lot of blooms and it has lots of buds.now...can I somehow save all that lovely pollen for a future use...? How? Do I freeze it? HELP!!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Roadrunner you have to ask someone else. I don't hybridize. I just grow for the beauty, smell, and food for the night moths.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh no Jo!... it sounds like your getting the fever :-) We will have to teach you how to pollinate.

I pluck the anthers out of the blooms with tweezers. I put them in cupcake liner papers to dry out on my counter for a day or two. Then they go into little seed bags to be stored in the freezer for later.

For you to pollinate your flowers you'll need pollen from a brug that is geneticly different than the one you have. Want me to send you some pollen to play with?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sue what are seed bags? So you freeze your anthers also?

Donna yours is such a healthy looking beauty brug. I love it when brugs have such beuatiful green leaves with bright flowers hanging amongst them. Suddenly all my Rosamond leaves on all my plants are lackluster. So sad.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, didn't I send you some of the little plastic bags that you can put seeds in? If I didn't, I sure meant to. They come in different sizes, but I think mine are about 2x3 inch or something like that. Let me know if you need some and I'll stick some in the mail.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Yah Kell, the little zipper bags. I freeze the anthers whole and use the anther as my paint brush when I pollinate. I've tried taking the pollen off with a paintbrush but it seems like all the pollen ends up in the bristles of the brush and I hardly have any left to save.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

No Brugie, you sent me the bigger bags to stick my rooting cuttings in. That would be great if you would share a few. thanks so much.

Sue, don't the bottom part of the anthers rot and break off?

Biel, Switzerland(Zone 7a)

What a wonderful gift to receive! Enjoy it.I have a white Suav. too,and I loved it all summer long in front of my door.Unfortunately I went away for a week and well, that's another story, lol.

Crossville, TN

Poppysue...if I take the antlers out of the bloom will the bloom die? When do I cross pollinate?

I bought some of the little bags at the flea market while in TN...and some when I was in Fla. They are so handy...I take a picture of the flower/gourds whne I can and include one in the little bag with the seeds...shows just what the seed will produce.

Thanks all for the help. Jo

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

The flower won't die Jo but sometimes it gets a little mangled if you man-handle it too much. I know I've torn the bloom before by accident. I try to pollinate as soon as bloom opens up but I know some people pollinate before the bloom is fully open.

Crossville, TN

so....I need to pollinate THESE blooms, right?? If so, you better rush me some pollen...LOLI still have lots of buds that I hope will open.

A friend here says she has a red one, and promised to start me one and she wants one of these. Jo

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I'll put some pollen in the mail tonight when I go to work!

Crossville, TN

Poppysue...Thanks you...and I will try to do this!! I think I will try to save some pollen too...Jo

Scooterbug e-mail me. I have not even made a dent in her yet with all the cuttings I have made. Be glad to send you some. Yep in about 2 years she will this big Bambi if she likes where you put her. She grows this big from being cut to the ground every year. So make sure to put her where she has room to grow. I have her where she gets bright light all day and about 3 hours of late afternoon sun.
