Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello again farmers, and farmer friends. Yesterday I got home from my week of endurance rides, WOW, it was a great week!! I took the digital camera along and took 145 pictures, mostly from the back of the horse. I'll post a few later, have to decide what you would like to see. The weather was good, gnats were bad and biting us and the horses in some places on the trails near the Snake River mostly, but overall it was a wonderful week. I rode all 5 days and gained 260 miles on my nearest competator for the northwest regional mileage championship so I don't think he is much of a threat anymore. Last year I let him sneak up on me and had to make a run for miles at the end of the season, but I did beat him.
We have had a few more frosty nights in the past week so the leaves are getting gold on the poplar trees and quite a few have fallen from some other trees. Our good weather is about to become cold with a possibility of rain or snow showers in the next few days. There is still much to be done outside before winter really comes. My flower bed expansion lasagna bed is only about 1/3 done, but today I picked up a lot of cardboard from the feed stores in town so now I need to get a load or two of sheep barn cleanings and moldy hay or straw to go on top of it.
The furnace in the greenhouse is hooked up and operating when needed. Today I have the roof vents open and also have raised the window on the screen door, and it is so warm that the ventalation fan still comes on. So far I don't have too much in there, just the plants that were on the porch last summer. Soon I will have a raised bed all along one side for lettuce, some tomato plants and a few winter vegies. I didn't want to start anything before now since I was going to be gone all last week, hubby is not into plants but did water what was in the greenhouse for me while I was away so everything looked good when I got home.
Have a great evening, count your blessings.
