Gorgeous. It looks like it's in partial shade. Most references I have suggest partial shade to direct Sun.

My 3 foot pot plant is going a little yellow now that it's newly planted in direct Florida coastal Sun and sand. It's twin potted Sister inside my screenhouse is still rich green despite the need for a bigger pot.

Is partial shade critical to good health? I'm also considering possible potassium problem in sandy soil.

Depends on climate... in Florida full sun is rarely a problem- here in So Cal where we have no humidity, full sun is a bit tougher on the palms.

I just purchased a pygmy date palm, we were thinking of planting it on the east side of our lot; which does get a large amount of direct sunlight. We live in Loxahatchee, FL, west of West Palm Beach....Any suggestions on planting... The one we have has 3 clusters, should we seperate or leave as is? The gardening is new to us. Any help would be accecpted.

Don't separate unless you are will to take hours to carefully unwind the roots from each other... separation often means death of all the palms. Best to keep them as they are, or buy a single it that's what you want. No special planting directions, really... just water well.

Mine is in partial to mostly shade and it seems to do just fine. I'm in Tampa. Full sun is *still* harsh here, regardless of the humidity.

PS: Palmbob, you have the best collection of palm photos (not to mention other plants/trees/shrubs) I've seen. I really like your work! thanks!

How do you trim the bottom of the trunk to look so nice?

Lecanto, FL(Zone 9a)

Just make sure your clippers are clean. Wipe cutting part with alcohol or something similar so you don't add a fungus to the tree.
