new to the website and loving it

Clanton, AL(Zone 8a)

I have recently been told of this site and have thoroughly enjoyed it since becoming a member. I live in zone 7 almost in zone 8 and have only been gardening for about 3 years. I have done some veggie gardening and have started some flower gardening too. I am in the process of starting a bulb garden and have some plans for starting a perrenial garden and a shade garden too. The shade garden will take the longest time because i have got to clean out the area that i will put this garden in. The perrenial garden just needs the place tilled up and then put the plants there. Happy gardening, Robbie

Welcome Bagby! You will love it here and just jump in with any questions you have? I am still pretty much a newcomer myself, and I can attest to the warmth and friendships that you will find here.
Prepare to spend a lot of time here, I have all ready figured out that it becomes an addiction rapidly.
The spirit of generosity, kindness, and sharing is what this site is all about.
Dave does a wonderful job of making sure it stays that way!
Welcome!
Alice

Thanks Alice. I have just begun to find things on this site to explore. I am animal person so i explore that forum alot. I am an animal control officer for a police department in Alabama and would be willing to offer any suggestions to anyone that i can help. Animal issues are a big issue anywhere and it helps to know how to deal with problems. Thanks again, Robbie

It must break your heart the way that some people treat their animals. Here you will find that ours are all spoiled rotten, I am sure it will be a much more pleasurable experience.
I have a dog and 2 cats who are totally spoiled, my kids keep telling me the animals get better care then they did when they were little, but I don't think its gotten quite that bad!!!
The cats I have had for 2 years but the dog (a little shizshu has only been on the scene for about 3 months) they have made a pretty good adjustment, but once in awhile the cats still need to let him know where his place is, since as far as they are concerned they rule the house.
What are your gardening interests? Perennials, annuals, etc.
Do you like growing from seed, or plants? I am all ready jealous of your zone 8, you can do a lot more gardening their than we michigan folks.
Welcome again

Bagby, welcome to DG and thank you so much for sharing your expertise about animal issues with us.

Thanks for the welcome. I am liking so much about the gardening thing that i dont know exactly which i like the best yet. I think i do better with plants so far. I will try some seed next spring i think. I have been given some seed to plant next year for some purple okra and some wisteria and another plant i dont know the name of yet. A friend of mine gave me the seed for the two things other than the okra. I got that from a lady in the city i work for. I get things like that sometimes. It baffles some folks when someone like me stops to talk to them about their gardening. They dont expect me to stop and talk to them about that. They just think i would stop and ask about animal issues. LOL YOu never know what i will stop and talk about. You have to ask to get information. Right? Robbie

I think I already talked to you on another forum but here is a big welcome from Oregon where we have 22 degrees this morning and frost that looks like patches of snow. A warmer zone would sure be nice. Be careful where you plant that wisteria, it will find it's way up under the siding on your house and between the wall and the roof. We once lived in a house with a big wisteria planted in a bed on one corner, it found its way under the house to the opposite corner, and tried to get into the upstairs through a crack as well, so although they are beautiful I don't want one near a house.

Welcome Bagby!

Welcome to DG, Robbie. You can talk all you want to and as fast as you want at DG!

Clanton, AL(Zone 8a)

Oh, i wont put the wisteria near my house. I think i will put on a trellis away from our home. I am not quite sure where this will be but my yard is huge and it wont be a problem. I just like this stuff and the blooms are so fragrant. Thanks for the welcome, Robbie
P. S. Mary, which site did you talk to me on?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Make sure it is a good, sturdy trellis, perhaps made out of 4x4's and secured in concrete!!!

Clanton, AL(Zone 8a)

Good idea, haighr. Thanks for the suggestion.
