What are these?

Can any one tell me what these are?

Edited to say that: these are on my passion flower vines and I need to dig them up-it is going to frost here Monday-I can cover them for the night, or until they make their cocoons, but wanted to know if anyone has ideas on what I should do?

These are Gulf Fritillary caterpillars. Many Passiflora are thier host plants. I watched a butterfly laying eggs all over ours today.

Thank you Floridian, funny, I just rescued one from my hoop house that was desperately trying to get out! Glad I checked with you floks first. I have been stung by some spiny ones before and didn't want to mess with anything I didn't know.

So, should I bring them in too? or should I cover them until they are in cocoons?

One of the butterfly 'keepers' should come by here eventually with ideas and suggestions for you

Well, it didn't freeze last night so the little buggers should be OK for now. Hope they make it to their cocoons in time for winter!
