I know this probably isn't the right forum for this post, BUT it's the forum I am familiar with! Could someone please direct me to the best place for plant labels, markers & tags? I know I've googled before & found good places. But I have spent the last couple of days and have only found 1 place. Strange huh? Too bad I didn't make note of what I found before. Thanks in advance for any help!
Brinda :)
Information Please!

Wow...that was fast! Thanks so much Bonnie!

Morning Brinda -
My favorite place is the Paw Paw Everlast Label Company: http://www.everlastlabel.com/index.html
I usually order 'C' and 'M' styles, $23-$25 per 100 markers includes shipping.
The markers combined with a Brother P-Touch label maker hooked up to a PC gives you your own private PDB and legible labels for those really long names.
Takes you from A to B in no time! Their service is excellent and fast delivery too.
Good question Brinda! I was wonder the same thing after receiving tagged cuttings! Thanks from me too.
Gosh Happenstance, you are so oraganized and neat you make me sick!
OK, I admit I am just so jealous!
LOL kell......this was a New Year's resolution when I began this garden FIVE YEARS ago. I just started this system in May of this year....finally. So I started sifting through bags of labels and matching them to plants and researching some of the bad ID's
I began by handwriting the names w/black marker, but found that some names are way too long and if even I couldn't read my own handwriting it was pretty much a waste of time. So I switched to a P-touch label maker and WOW! It makes it so easy and as I said you end up with a personal database with room for all the columns and info and notes you care to add. You can choose how much or little to print on the label.
It was started purely as a self-defense system so I didn't look like a complete idiot when asked "what's that pretty plant?"......way too many plants and more than my share of senior moments lately. The scary part is that with over 600 plant types (200 or so are greenhouse succulents) now in my garden I am learning their names. It's that old "write it down" and you will remember theory. Or else it's just because everything is now marked that I can pretend I remember their names. :-)
Gosh, I'd love to see pictures of some of your 600 plants. It must be beautiful around your place. I thought when I had over 150 perennials in my garden that I was doing well and I could tell you every name back then. Now I only do tropicals and the names don't come to me easily. I should mark mine the way you do. TwinLakesChef, what a sweetie, sent me a P-touch labeler. What a great little gadget.
Well, I certainly don't label every plant in my yard, but I wanted something special to label my brugs, so I bought this kind

They look really nice, but aren't cheap, so that is why I just use those for the brugs, everything else in my garden is marked in my brain! lol
Hey Brin, What's wrong with the one's we just got for the RU? Arlene had all these cool labels on Brugie's brugs. I want my labels to look like Arlene's!! Sometimes I hate my handwriting & to keep looking at it is not a good thing!
Bambi
Happenstance which Brother PT do you have I have been looking at them? Back2back how did Arlene label hers?
Afternoon Brugie -
The great thing about DG is that you can see images of my garden as well as all other members:
Here's a link to images of some of my plants from the PDB:
http://plantsdatabase.com/imagesbyuser.php?user=Happenstance
And here are your images from the PDB for others to enjoy:
http://plantsdatabase.com/imagesbyuser.php?user=Brugie
These links only pick up images in the PDB, not the images from threads in other forums. There must be a way to bring up all your other images, but I haven't figured it out yet.....threads you have posted or posted to come up in this search:
http://davesgarden.com/search/index.php?forum=&search_text=Brugie&limit=0&Search=Search
Wow, that is going to take some time to look through. Thanks. Yes, I don't add to the PDB. Bad me.
Happenstance, what a great Christmas present for garden pals!
The Paw Paws look great! Thanks for a great link.
It looks like Arlene's labels were made with a P Touch. I have an old p touch.... but where is the manual?
Hi mystic -
I have the 2600, puchased it from Image Supply in Sacramento and I order tapes from them too. Great customer service and usually gets to me within 48 hours of order time. Can't beat that! Haven't checked it out, but looks like there is currently a $30 rebate thing going and if your order is over $75 from Image Supply, shipping is free.

I use the black on clear 1" tape, fits perfectly (the P-touch has an automatic cutter) on the 'C' metal markers from Paw Paw and just needs a slight adjustment for the 'M' markers.

I transfer the whole database from the P - Touch into an Excel spreadsheet and it gives you a lot more flexibility in how it can be used.

I think for now, since I am low on funds, I'll use in the spring the mini-blinds, cut up into spears and marked with a permanent marker. More economical for me but a great idea I got from some friends at the GA round up
I still hate you Happenstance!! No matter how many helpful hints you give I will never get around to doing it for I am pathetic and you are not!!!
At EBay I just got some neat 'plant slip labels' for tagging the actual plant, you know the ones like a ribbon that closes over into itself that you write on ...get it? HAH! At least I know what I mean...:D
$5 for 100 (includes s&h)....different colors too ;)
For those of you that are growing or breeding hybrids, you need to tag the actual plant.

I agree with that!
Wow...I have learned so much since this morning! I should have stayed home all day. Or in front of the puter! We spent most of the day running around out in the cold wind moving most everything to the basement. What wasn't moved to the basement was moved into the kitchen. Oh my....what a mess to try to walk around! This is just a partial pic. There are over 100 pots in the kitchen now. Ugh....we need MORE ROOM!!!
Bambi....what I really meant to post was where do I find 'tags'! But I didn't know what to search for when I made that post! David...you're great! Thanks for the heads up!!! After today....I will make new plans to label and tag my brugs. They are most important to me. Most everything else I can remember! LOL (Hopefully)
This thread has become very informative! And Candy (Happenstance), I do hope that someday soon I will be as organized as you are. I used to be so organized, but after this hormonal hell struck, I forget how to be organized!!! Please tell me that is normal!!! LOL
Brinda :)
Ps....thanks so much for all the input everyone!
Brinda,
...Nice selection of tropicals you have there my dear, did you forget that you were going to send them all to me =(
...LOLOLOLOL,good work.
shirley >^,,^< SB
Thanks Shirley, but I don't think they will make it through the winter in WI. That is my problem here at the OK Corral! Not enough heat and way tooooo much cold! LOL

"I used to be so organized, but after this hormonal hell struck, I forget how to be organized!!!"
If you can live through it, believe it or not you will find the fog clears and you will be more energized than ever.
But, then just when you start to get it together you can't remember what it was you were planning to do. :-)
And it gets better......you find yourself walking through the garden on a mission, you stop dead in your tracks and talk to yourself, "What was it I was going to do?" I swear I am going to get one of those tool belts, cause I leave my clippers all over the place and spend half my time looking for them.
Ain't life grand?
