Experimenting with raised beds, orientation, soil mixes etc and thought you may like to see some of the results.Found you get VERY different results from different retail suppliers.Photos are from some of 800 planted 12/14 weeks ago. John in Oz.

Beautiful Lilies Hotly!

Now what was the best soil mix and orientation you found? We grow several species and find partial shade very beneficial to most of ours. However, the Asiatic hybrids Lilies tend to only appear for one year in our slightly acid clay loam so we grow them in dry, bark type medium in full sun.

Hi Baa, Orientation seems to have better results East/West which is not what I was expecting. The stems all follow the sun at a slight angle but remain straight.Soil mixes have included washed river sand ,perlite ,my own potting mix , very old sheep manure ,fine sugar cane mulch (almost begasse) , tee tree mulch and have sometimes used very small polystyrene balls used in bean bag cushions to help aeration and also reduce the weight of potted plants.Have had poor results with the two beds that had partial late shade , much better with full sun.Am currently waiting on delivery of another 400 advanced bulbs to see the effects of late planting .John in Oz.
