On June 12, 2003, Susie started a thread, "Brugmansias for Postage". I didn't see the thread until June 22, but I was still blessed to receive Jean Pasco x4 and Versicolor Peach x2. I received my plants on 7 July and after potting them, I shared four plants with family and friends and kept one JP and VP for myself.
I was thrilled beyond words when I noticed that a bud had formed on Jean Pasco.
Thank-you Susie (Calalily)
JP is a good one, you'll love her.
Thank-you very, very much Susie. Although I don't have a flush of flowers, this one flower has brought me great joy. May God bless you always.
How nice! You live in Homestead? My husband's Uncle David lives there. That is where we are planning to move eventually. Do you mind if I ask what it's like?
J. Pasko is one of my favorites, have shared cuttings from her many times.
Next flush will be big. JP is a pretty brug. Nice pictures.
Jenks:
That's a tough question to answer. LOL You have urban, suburban, and rural areas in Homestead. It has changed a lot since Hurricane Andrew because Homestead Air Force Base (which was a major employer and really poured millions into the local economy) was destroyed. Homestead Air Force Reserve Base is a much smaller operation.
There are a lot of open areas used by farmers and nursery/landscape operators that are typically west of U.S. 1. Many of these areas are being sold to developers and housing developments seem to pop up over night. That's what happens when you begin to run out of land and that has been happening for the last few years in Miami-Dade County.
Downtown Homestead is nice and quaint. It's full of antique shops and small restaurants. We're not far from Florida City (the last city before the Florida Keys)and that's where the super Walmart and The Home Depot are located. There are no shopping malls or movie theatres but because things are so close together in South Dade (one side of a street might be in Homestead, the other side might be in Florida City LOL), it is not difficult to get to them. There is an outlet mall in Florida City, and shopping malls in Cutler Ridge and Kendall. There is a movie theatre in Perrine/Cutler Ridge and numerous theatres in Kendall. There are many places of worship in Homestead and the surrounding areas.
Homestead is home to Miami-Dade College (formerly a community college)and there are other schools, colleges, and universities located in the South Dade area.
I haven't even mentioned The Everglades, the Motorsports Complex, or Fruit and Spice Park so here are a few links to give you a bit more information:

I am happy for you that you received some brugs. Jean Pasko is one of my favorites because of its shape, size and color. You will be even more pleased when you see this one next summer.
Thank you so much! I heard I would like it-next time we go down to Miami, we are going to take a look around.
I work for a Telecommunications company in a VSAT network ops center and they say that they may be phasing the satellite out or selling it wihin the next year. When that happens, we will be headed down there!
You're welcome Jenks! When you and your family move down, I hope you'll visit Fairchild Tropical Garden. I visit the garden as often as possible. It's beautiful!

I wouldn't miss a one (botanical garden)! Thank you for all the links! I do have a 4 year old and a 9 year old. I hope to be down there soon!
