hard frost last night

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

-2 last night and only +2 this morning. Dahlias limp the same as the Cannas. Good job my Pelargoniums came inside last Friday.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

We had -5 two days ago. -3 C last night. Right now it's -4 C outside.

Our daytime highs are 0 to +2 C.

Everything is dark green mush now.

:]

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

oh well longest night is only a few weeks away and it's up hill again from there.

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Thats a good way to look at it, already I'm dreaming of next spring/summers displays.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

me too Sue. Cant wait to see my new pond and bog garden wake up!!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

next years flowers like I had this year are ordered and paid for already. They arrive the last week of March.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

wow!! now thats what I call organised!!

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I did it last month.

Middlesbrough, United Kingdom

And I'm thinking of daffies! :)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I'm just thinking of all the Winter fun.. Going to school by snowy streets in the dark, coming back when it starts to get dark again.. Beautiful snowy and sunny Winter days, and days when it just keep snowing and days when we go having fun with friends outside :D

Spring is so far away.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

We hardly ever get snow here anymore, its usually just wet and cold:(

I planted quite a few bulbs about a month ago, mainly species dwarf Tulips Irises, and Erythroniums. Have more specialist bulbs ordered for the spring.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Evert when you get to my age or your parents age you'll understand why spring is just around the corner. The older you get the quicker the months go by

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

If we had weather like yours Evert I'd be looking forewards to the snow too.I love snow, used to be a big kid when it used to snow. Couldn't wait for the kids to come home from school, used to be bobbing up and down in the window ,willing them to get home quickly so's we could go out and play in it.
Trouble was ,they'd get cold and bored, and want to go in.
I can remember when they were little ,I used to take them over to my parents as they lived in front of a big steep hill, where evewry one used to go sledging(albeit on plastic sacks and tin trays)We did go and buy a proper sleigh, and it's never snowed since!!...:-(
I hate it though when it starts to turn wet and dirty sludge.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

well it is raining here. I have been sat working at my computer all afternoon and I am freezzzzinngg!! :S :(

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

It rained a bit here, but now it's stopped, bloomin cold though, must get some logs in , time for the roaring fire in the evenings.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Our Winter is longer than yours.. but the good thing is the snow indeed. I couldn't think it without snow. It would be so dark.

You could need some Finnish house builders there I think? I was just reading that when foreigners always complain how cold it is in Finland - at least it's warm inside in Finnish houses! :D

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

there is a company in the UK supplying Finnish houses.

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Well, we're making up for it today, hail, torrential rains, thunder lightening, winds that come from nowhere, then die down altogether.
Are Finnish houses like Norwegian houses ,wooden slats? I couldn't get over the fact that nearly all the houses we passed (on the coastline that was)had flag-poles and were flying their national flag.
Do you have good insulation in your houses?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Some houses are.. I just meant that we have good insulation in our houses, so they don't get cold so easily. Also most houses have a fireplace, central heating, and we just bought us a warm air blower. And we've got the sauna of course ;)

Almost all houses here have a flagpole in the yard as well. We respect our independency, as we were under foreign rule in the past. Of course you might find it a bit odd because the British history is "a bit" different, he-he. :]

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

It has been raining snow here all day.

Dublin airport was closed today for a few hours due to snow and hail.

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Do you really have a sauna in your house?Do most people? Scandinavians are portrayed as always using the sauna, then running out naked to roll in the snow,or diving into any icy lake.
Mitjo, do you enjoy the snow?
The wind and rain got so bad here last night(along with brilliant lightening and overhead thender)that we had power-cuts,and my sun-lounge sprang a leak, water was running in, all I could do was put towels and tubs on the floor to try to keep as much as poss off the floor.
Luckily a friend from over the road came to watch the footie(he doesn't have Sky anymore)so he helped me and Jazz. The lights went off just as he sat down to watch the footie!!...LOL he sat biting his nails till the leccy came back on.

Bolton, Greater Manc, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

sounds like you had quite an exciting night Sue!! I know that they had it bad in Newcastle even!! seems like the west coast missed out though! still we,ve already had our fair share of rain.

Horn, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Overhere we have sunny weather...very nice gardenwork weather!
Temps are lower then as ussually this period of the year.
During daytime it's about +8C and during nights we already have a little frost (-2C)Yes, I love Christmastime and snow and even the cold. I just count my blessings having a dry and warm house..wintertime can be so cosy. But after Christmas..wooww I'm longing for spring..I cannot wait.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Sueone, yes we really do have a sauna. All houses in Finland have a sauna I guess.. It's originally from Finland, so now wonder. Even big apartment houses have shared saunas where people can have their own sauna times if they want to.

I sometiems roll in snow when in sauna, but it feels VERY COLD. A fast way to cool off, huh?

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Sueone, like Evert said, many people have Sauna, almost all has one.
Snow is kinda fun sometimes, you know, we can do thing what we cant do in summer, like snowbording, and ice-skating...

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

not my idea of fun Evert, a bit too cold, sauna sounds nice, but not the shock afterwards!!..
I'd love a go at snowboarding if I was younger and more agile..can just picture me whizzing down the slopes..(in mydreams)LOL
