Interesting... I always wonder if when I bring my brugs inside or into the garage if the fragrance is intoxicating. The fragrance is contained and so much more intense than if I was just sitting outside enjoying them. I don't think so, but it sure does smell wonderful!
Maybe thats the aphrodisiac! lol
Funny - only last week my friend told me she had heard that Atropine,for dialation of the eyes,was made from them! Seems there may be some truth to this.
Several people have posted on here about broken leaves or stems dripping into their eyes and dialating them. Somehow that does not even sound fun.
Oh man! Here I am working in Ophthalmology, and I didnt even know what the dilating drops were made from. I will have to bring that up in the morning.
Atropine comes from Atropa belladonna, member of the Solanacae. Belladonna= beautiful lady, as the Italian women of the past used to dilate their pupils deliberately with this "deadly nightshade" for beauty.
I finally had that happen to when I was trimming some of the brugs,Had no idea,I went to the feed store and the lady asked me"are you OK?" and I was like,"yeah,why?" and she said my one eye was all screwed up,I went out to my truck looked in the rearview mirror and you couldn't even tell what color my one eye was it was so dialated.....It actually made me giggle cause I looked so dang stupid!
I wear glasses, so maybe that helps. I have felt the juice hit me in the face when popping off some of the big leaves. Must remember to be more careful next year. I'm surprised it didn't interfere with your vision, Karyn.
lol CC.. that dilation will mess with your near vision, but the distance should have been ok... especially with "only" one dilated. Each person reacts SO differntly to the dilation. I called the pharmacy today, and they gave me a list of what was in Atropine, and nothing brugmansia... but there was belladonna. Still there is obviously SOMTHING making those pupils dilate in those brugs.
we do need to all have a pair of glasses at the door when we go out. it's so easy to get to picking leaves and such without really thinking.
